Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Preview
If you’re a fan of a nail-biting title race that goes down to the wire, where there’s everything to play for and no room for error, then the Bundesliga is the league for you.
With 7 games of the season remaining there’s just 9 points separating League leaders Bayern Munich from 5th place Borussia Mönchengladbach, meaning there’s 5 teams with a realistic chance of claiming the title. Though all these teams will have the ambition of glory come the end of the season, there are two clear dominant forces in the Bundesliga that could likely turn this campaign into a two-horse race. I’m obviously speaking about Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
The two sides meet in a highly anticipated clash this Tuesday 26th March, where Dortmund will host Bayern at the Signal Iduna Park for the second Der Klassikers of the season. Bayern cruised to a 4-0 victory when the two sides met earlier in the season at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern currently hold a 4-point gap over Dortmund, meaning this is a must-not-lose game for BVB, as a 7-point gap would probably be too much to pull back from. A Dortmund victory however, would leave things very interesting, with a gap of just 1-point going into the last 6 games.
Both Dortmund and Bayern have such depth in their squads, stacked with world class talent, with a combination of youth and experience. On paper this one is split down the middle and should come down to whichever team performs better on the day.
What’s extremely intriguing about this match is both sides are fantastic at dominating games by keeping possession of the ball, outworking and breaking down their opponents, as well as quick counter attacks, so it will be fascinating to see who can control the majority of the ball and create more opportunities.
Both sides are on hot form at the moment, winning their last six games, including two solid victories each since the League returned last week.
There will be so many intriguing battles across the pitch, with great comparisons of players to be made, like Sancho or Gnabry, Brandt or Goretzka, Guerrero or Davies, Hummles or Alaba, Reus or Muller and Burki or Neuer. However, one of the most interesting comparisons to be made is about two of the most clinical and dangerous strikers in Europe, Dortmund’s Erling Braut Håland and Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski. Both men are currently on 41 goals in all competitions this season and though at very different stages in their careers, they are having outstanding seasons. One of these men could be the key to victory come Tuesday.
Borussia Dortmund Predicted Line Up
Bayern Munich Predicted Line Up
Due to a combination of the Convid-19 pandemic and the stakes on the line, this could be one of the most viewed football matches for some time, potentially the highest viewed game in Bundesliga history.
Over the last decade, Bayern Munich have been the dominating force in the Bundesliga, winning 8 out of last 10 titles. Dortmund have pushed them to the limit on many occasions and even won the other two of these titles, winning back to back League campaigns under Jurgen Klopp, however, Bayern have since won seven straight.
Can this be the year Dortmund once again become the dominate team of German football or will Bayern continue their reign with an eighth-straight title?
Tuesday is only the battle, though one team can take a giant stride towards winning the war.
It’s the Der Klassiker and it’s not one to be missed.
