Edinson Volquez -- the player the Reds traded Josh Hamilton to the Rangers to get.
First round draft picks Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Brad Boxberger.
A gob of talent the Reds tossed away to get Mat Latos from the Padres.
But if Latos can get it done the way he did tonight, all of the prized prospects gone will seem like water under the bridge.
Latos struck out 13 Brewers in the 3-1 complete game win and made his opposition look helpless with the exception of one at-bat.
It was the kind of dominant performance that not only changes course on what has been a frustrating tailspin after losing five of their last six games, but more importantly revives the hope that the Reds do have a legit Number 2 starter in the making.
The Brewers hitters definitely helped Latos some, but he was nonetheless dominant.
Now that the league's trading binge is on the horizon with Cincinnati native Kevin Youkilis being the first big name to swap uniforms, the Reds may still pursue a legit Number 2 if the right pitcher is made available -- namely Cole Hamels.
Yet the night-and-day performance that Latos turned in sure shows the promise that can make Reds fans and front office staff alike believers that the steep prize to get Latos may payoff this year in both the regular season and the playoffs.
