Every Drop Counts: Sawyer Water Filters Will Let You Waste Not One

Updated on March 1, 2017

The First Time I Sawyer

Earlier this year, I unexpectedly got the chance to speak to one of the Directors of Sawyer Europe, Sean Male, where I was then introduced to a number of their remarkably exceptional products - one of which was their water filter.

Sawyer Europe is mainly based in the UK and they are the continent's sole distributor of the most convenient and reliable water filter there is in the market today.

Ideally, their water filters are dedicated to those who are into trekking, hiking and camping, where there may be a limited source of clean, potable water. But regardless of its main purpose, it is recommended and only fit that every household acquire at least a filtration product for health and safety reasons because clear does not necessarily means clean.

Filtered Over Bottled

Most campers would just bring with them litres and litres of bottled water because they think it is economical and the most convenient thing to do. They think it will be their best bet for safe drinking water for their trip's water consumption. As it turns out, it actually is not.

As much that it will be very unhandy traveling with a heavy backpack filled with water, it could also lead to health hazards as they are practically stored more often than not in plastic bottles.

Cons In Consuming Bottled Water

Here are few points to remind yourself whenever you consider constant drinking from plastic water bottles:

  • Causes cancer

Yes. It does cause cancer, but indirectly. Water stored in plastic containers are already harmful to our body in as short as 10 weeks of its storage. And the problem is, who even reads the manufacturing date of water bottles nowadays? Worse is, if the bottles were exposed to heat during shipment and storage.

  • Expensive

I know some gallons of water only costs a few bills, but try summing up your consumption for a year. It then becomes a big number, right? Why patronize buying something that is meant to be free in the first place? Not that we are accusing the industry that manufactures them something about overpricing water or the sort, but the point is, come on, water is everywhere. We just need to be wiser on how to get potable ones that are clean, safe, and economical.

  • Increase Waste Problems

Since most water bottles are made from plastic materials, it is actually promoting the build up of burdensome wastes. Of course, some bottled water may be packed in glass containers, but they are obviously the ones that cost ten folds as those of the so called 'economical' water. Plastic is one of the major culprits in the increasing waste management problem in the whole world and consuming lots of bottled water that come in these material only makes the entire situation worse.

The Water Filters

  • The Sawyer Squeeze Filter

Particularly one of Sawyer's best seller. It is the regular water filter that they offer and it weighs at only 3 ounces - that's roughly just 85 grams. So it is practically compact and light. Very ideal for campers who are only up for carrying one bag that contains everything in their backs.

This water filter is so convenient and so practical that it can actually filter an astounding number of gallons. And I am not only talking about a few hundred gallon here. We are talking about a 100,000 gallon guarantee, which equates to 378,540 litres of safe, potable drinking water.

  • The Sawyer MINI Filter

If you do not seem to be satisfied with the size of the normal Sawyer Water Filter, this mini edition will most probably suit your preference. It produces the same water quality output as the normal one, only

At just 65grams, and fitting in the palm of your hand, this is simply the best there is for Weight, Size and Performance. Drink directly as a straw, attach to Sawyer Squeeze Pouches, use inline, or attach to standard threaded bottles. The MINI uses the same exclusive 0.1 micron hollow fiber membrane filter used in our other filters. Although not quite as quick as the SP129 version, you will still be bowled over by the flowrate of this amazing little filter. The MINI comes with a 100,000 gallon (378,540 Litre) guarantee which is still the best rating there is ANYWHERE, and will last for anybody's lifetime.

Other Noteworthy Products from Sawyer Europe

  • Sawyer Stay Put Sunscreen Lotion

I have to say, this sunscreen literally took over the moisturizer I have been using for months. Why use two separate products for moisturizing and sun protection when you can get both benefits from one, right? I know sunscreens have the reputation of leaving the skin an oily and sticky feeling once applied. But surprisingly, this one doesn't - best of both worlds indeed!

SP1188 Stay-Put® Sun Screen - System 1 SPF 30
SP1188 Stay-Put® Sun Screen - System 1 SPF 30
SP1298 Stay-Put® Sun Screen - System 2 SPF 50
SP1298 Stay-Put® Sun Screen - System 2 SPF 50

Sawyer Europe offers two types of sunscreens which only varies on their Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The one I am currently using is the SP1188 Stay-Put Sun Screen - System 1 SPF 30. The other sunscreen product they offer is the SP1298 Stay-Put Sun Screen - System 2 SPF 50.

Another point I want to commend Sawyer sunscreens for is that they are mildly scented and are waterproof, so they will definitely work for beach bums and everyday use.
