FIFA World Cup Football 2010 - Sorez the Villain

Updated on July 4, 2010

Sorez – the Villainous Hero

Sorez may be a great hero in Uruguay as he became the agent for entering Uruguay to the semifinals of world cup football 2010 after a long gap of forty years. The goal shot from Ghana player Adiyya in the last minut of extra time was about to enter the goal line where Sorez first blocked by leg and secondly by his both hands like a goal keeper does. Another Uruguay player was also there with the same action. Eventhough Sorez got a marching order for this action the penalty awarded for this hit the cross bar leading the match to Penalty shoot out. In my opinion what Sorez done is really cheating the whole world. In a critical match like this to make his own team winning he took the cheapest method. Eventhough coach had told it is the spontaneous action from Sorez , the second man who was in post also have the same  action means , it is clear that it is the teaching of coach that Sorez practiced.

Being a crucial match it was the duty of the referee to allow it as a goal. It was going to be a goal if Sorez was honest. Here the gentleman game had lost its name. Sorez reacts his action was like Maradona’s God’s Hand in 1986 world cup against England. But there it was a doubt about the action. Later Maradona told about it and then only the discussion occurred. Here the case is different. A goal that may determine the entire flow of the tournament had openly denied by a ridiculous act. All the name he had gained by his scoring ability had lost by this single act. Ghana will not forgive him for this action and that curse will be there in their next match and also on Sorez’s future.

Some says that the action by Sorez is a professional trick practiced by professional players. But it is not a good act if it is a practice. In future plays we can see a lot of such actions. A single marching order is not at all a punishment for such an action. My opinion is that in such cases the goal should be allowed as the chance of penalty is 50 -50.The player should be given life long ban. The team should be suspended immediately. Else the same practice will continue in future which will kill the beauty of football and also the attraction of the game.
