Finally, Syracuse wins an A.C.C. Championship!
The former Big East power house wins in the A.C.C.
Yes I know but...
Technically Syracuse won the A.C.C. Championship last year in track and field. I do not want to take that away from the athletes or the University. However, this is a much bigger win. Look at how good the A.C.C. is in lacrosse!
Syracuse powers through the perennial giants!
Syracuse has only played in 4 A.C.C. tournament games. The tournament only allows 4 teams in and this is S.U.'s second season, after leaving the Big East. Amazingly, all four games have been decided by one goal. This year Syracuse out paced Duke, 15-14, which is the exact same score that The Orange lost last year's Championship game to Notre Dame.
Down 6-2 in the first quarter, Syracuse had it's work cut out for them. In the second quarter the mighty Orange stormed back and out scored their opponent by 7-1. They never trailed again, but the Duke Blue Devils kept things close. Syracuse's goalie Bobby Wardwell, got the ball back with 12 seconds to go and he cleared it to Dylan Donahue. That was a great finish for a great day for the Orange's goalie. Nick Galloso had a hat trick in both games this weekend and in the Championship Game, Nick Rice had 7 points (3 goals )! Randy Staats also had 3 goals and 2 assists.
And now to the N.C.A.A. Tourney!
Colgate won their conference today as well, so both teams are in. Syracuse travels to Colgate for the season finale on Saturday May 2nd at 3:30. If Syracuse wins, they will likely be the overall number 1 seed. Not bad for the 3rd seed in the A.C.C.!
