Tying a scrambled egg fly
Materials Needed
Before we begin to tie our fly, lets have a look at the materials required to make a glo spawn fly.
Hook - size 10 - 16 nymph hook. I will be using a mustad signature series size 14 nymph hook.
Thread - medium strength nymph thread. I like to use red for my egg pattern steelhead flies.
Tail - Crystal flash. You could substitute flashabou
Body - Micro glo bug yarn. I am going to use flame and cheese but there are endless color combinations that would work well.
1. Start your thread on the hook and build a thread base. Advance the thread down to the hook bend and tie in 4-6 strands of crystal flash to make a tail about 3/4 the length of the hook shank.
2. Tie in your two strands of micro yarn side by side and wrap them to the shank down to the bend of the hook.
3. Create a loop using both strands of yarn and your bodkin. Wrap the loop 3-4 times to secure it to the hook shank. While keeping upward pressure with the bodkin, pull the yarn strands back to the top of the hook shank before moving onto the next loop.
4. Make 4-5 loops before trimming off your materials and whip finishing the fly.
