Virendra Sehwag and Zaheer Khan rested for Asia Cup
The All India Senior Selection Committee has selected the 15 player team for the Asia Cup 2012 which will be played in Bangladesh in March 2012. The selectors have given rest to Virendra Sehwag and Zaheer Khan on fitness grounds. Umesh Yadav is also dropped from the team on fitness grounds. M.S. Dhoni is the captain of the team and Virat Kohli has been chosen as the vice-captain of the Indian Cricket team after his blazing knock against Sri Lanka yesterday. Virat Kohli’s good performance in Australia paid off and he has managed to gain the confidence of the selectors this time and has been selected as the vice captain of the team. Virat Kohli was the captain of the under 19 world cup winning team.
Virendra Sehwag, after poor performance in Australia was expected to be dropped from the side. Sehwag has not performed and his rivalry against the present Indian Captain M.S. Dhoni cost him his spot in the team in the Asia Cup. Sachin Tendulkar who has been waiting for his 100th century was also expected to be dropped from the team but as he is the senior most player and celebrated as god of cricket in India it was a tough decision for the selectors and by their choice of him being in the side once again proved that Sachin bigger than Indian Cricket and no one but Sachin can remove him from the team. But, Sachin should not take this for granted as criticizers have been speaking about his age and time for retirement because of his performance in Australia and Asia Cup might be his last chance to play as a part of Indian One Day team, if he fails to perform in Asia Cup 2012.
The Indian team for Asia Cup 2012 is as follows:
1. M S Dhoni (Capt)
