Fishing tournaments in Florida are very popular, but no place is more popular for great fishing tournaments than Key West FL.
Key West Fishing Tournament:
This is a seven month long fishing competition in Keywest that runs from April through November and is open to the general public. Visiting and resident anglers are encouraged to enter their catches, at no charge, at a tournament weigh station during the seven-month event. All entries receive a certificate noting their catch, and qualify for prizes.
Their goal is to promote sport fishing participation in Key West by encouraging the release of sport game fish. They respect and preserve the marine environment and encourage all fishermen and visitors to do the same.

TOURNAMENT WINNERS & SCORING:
Winners will be determined in accordance with the Tournament Scoring System:
1. Sailfish score of 300 points for a release, zero points for killed sailfish.
2. In case of a tie, winners will be determined by the release time of (their, or the teams) last fish. (i.e. It is whoever caught their last fish first).
PRIZE MONEY:
First Place – $100,000
Second Place – $15,000
Third Place – $10,000
Fishing will be on
Wednesday April 15, Thursday April 16, and Saturday April 18.
Geographical boundary limits are as follows: Eastern boundary – W 81.00 and Western boundary – W 82.20. The controlled daily departure location will be in the Lower Keys area. Boats must assemble each morning inside the reef line between Looe Key reef off Big Pine Key, and Western Dry Rocks off Key West. The Committee Boat will broadcast a signal on VHF Channel 78 at 7 a.m. authorizing all boats to depart the assembly area. Boats must pass through the controlled assembly area after 7 a.m. before they begin fishing. Boats must remain in the water (i.e., not transported in any manner to another location). Dates and times are final. There is no weather day. The committee boat will monitor Channel 78 VHF and 80 VHF as a backup.
8 a.m. – lines in the water on a radio signal from the Committee Boat (on the last day lines in at 7 a.m.)
3:30 p.m. – lines out of the water on a radio signal from the Committee Boat (on the last day lines out at 2 p.m.)

Anglers in the Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament are to compete for a guaranteed cash purse of more than $50,000. The tournament takes place in conjunction with Key West’s Hemingway Days celebration, held each July.
