While fishing in Alaska is the most common place to go fishing, Minnesota is known as the land of lakes for a reason, with some of the worlds best lake fishing and the best ice fishing.

Minessota fishing combines beautiful woodlands with expanses of lake which stock some of the worlds most varied fish populations.  If you go fishing in Minnesota you will always land some of your best catches, be they Pike, Bass, or Trout.

On top of these there are also plenty of rare fish that you can find when fishing in Minnesota, although some of the endarged species must be returned if caught.

The Best Lake Fishing in Minnesota

There is plenty of ways to go fishing, but the Worlds most enchanting lake fishing is in Minnesota.  The lakes in Minnesota provide perfect boat fishing, as well as lakeside fishing.  If you are looking for a relaxing fishing vacation, there is little better than sitting down by a lakeside, or sitting back on your boat and letting your rod dangle in to the serene Minnesota fishing lakes.

Nearly all the numerous lakes provide goood fishing in Minnesota, with a large number of the professional lakes kept stocked by the fishing lodges around them.  However, many people avoid the lakes which have been kept stocked, preferring the natural, secluded fishing in the organic lakes.

The Best Ice Fishing in Minnesota

While Alaska Fishing is known for it's sparkling streams, Minnesota is known for it's vast lakes which are fished in Summer and Winter alike. In Winter the Lakes of Minnesota are often frozen over. This has not stopped the locals from perfecting the art of ice fishing, cutting through the thick layers of lake ice to reach the fish below.

Ice Fishing in Minnesota has not stayed just a locals way of life, Ice fishing is now one of the great tourist attractions of Minnesota, with ice fishing vacations for adults and children alike. While Ice fishing will not be your relaxing fishing vacation that Minnesota lakeside fishing would be in summer, it does have a certain charm, and should be something that everyone tries at least once.

Fishing Lodges in Minnesota

Fishing in Minnesota is definitely a perfect fishing getaway for you and your friends. However camping in Minnesota can get quite chilly, which is where fishing lodges come in extremely handy.  Minnesota fishing lodges are generally located around some of the most well stocked fishing lakes in Minnesota. A fishing lodge in Minnesota provides a warm comforting cabin which is always a welcome sight after hours sat by the water. Having your own room, a communal room with a wood burning fireplace, and soft couches for the end of each day really does help bring a touch of luxury to your Minnesota fishing vacations.

Camping on your Minnesota Fishing Trip

If you are feeling in the mood to get back to nature, then a fishing lodge might just be a little bit too comfortable for your tastes. Camping in Minnesota allows you to go back to your roots, stay close to the fishes, and sleep with only a layer of canvas protecting you from the stars above.

Nothing beats cooking your catch over an open fire, surrounded by your friends and family. There is something special about a Minnesota camping fishing trip that cannot be replaced by any other experience in the world.

But if Minnesota in winter is too extreme... try NZ... only a 14000 km flight away and no ice to freeze your.. bait. Thanks for sharing Oli... I don't think ice fishing is my thing.. but lake fishing with a fly... well that's a different matter.

Can I laugh at you  The top lake for both summer and winter ice fishing would be Lake Mille Lacs. It won't be long now before the ice houses have to come off the lakes, the deadline in toward the end of February. The best resort towns...oh, wait, I could hub this one my own! Just kidding...Brainerd Lakes area. Love, from Minnesota :)
