Miroslav Klose's World cup world record

Updated on August 7, 2014

The tug of war for the all time top scorer in FIFA world cup started in 2006 when Brazil striker Ronaldo set a record of 15 goals from four world cup championships. German striker Miroslav Klose started his world cup debates in 2002 at Japan and began to hunt Ronaldo's all time record from 2006 onwards by winning the golden boot for top scorer of the world cup championship. In 2010 FIFA world cup at South Africa Klose came very near to the record. But an outset of fever kept him away from the loser's final match and hence he couldn't touch the record in that championship. Four years after German coach Joachim Loew was set something in mind when the veteran player Klose was selected to the squad to FIFA world cup 2014 at Brazil.

The Final way to Record

As a poetic justice the world record of all time top scorer of FIFA world cup was now owned singly by German striker Miroslav Klose. Klose reached the record height by scoring the 16th world cup goal at Belo Horizonte in the semi final match of the FIFA world cup against host Brazil. The record goal in 23rd minute of the match was the power of determination of Both Klose and the German team coach Joachim Loew. Eventhough Klose was a veteran and the match was too crucial for the team the coach had no doubt in Klose's position in opening squad of the team. Klose kept his coach's believes by scoring the second goal of the butchery match.

Klose began his World Cup career in 2002 with five header goals that proved the sharpness of his scoring ability.Four years later in 2006 with Germany as hosts, Klose won the Golden Boot when he scored another five goals in leading Germany to the semi-finals. In 2010 he scored four more in South Africa reaching a total tally of fourteen world cup goals.Klose reached the land mark of 15 goals in the match against Ghana just like Ronaldo. This was his 20th match in the FIFA world cup. So scoring 15 goals from twenty matches is a proof for consistency and best performance.

The speciality of the goal against Brazil does not end in that set record. It was a beautiful revenge also. Till the start of FIFA world cup 2014 in Brazil , the record was held by the Brazilian striker Ronaldo. He set the world record of all time world cup top scorer in 2006 world cup by eclipsing the German football legend Gerd Muller. The record was set at Germany's soil which was an added blow to the eclipsed Gerd Muller. Now like a revenge Miroslav Klose equalized with Ronaldo in Brazil's soil. And he set the world record in the soil of football's Mecca against the king of soccer world Brazil. Klose's record came in 23rd minute of the match and was witnessed by Ronaldo. Klose's goal helped Germany to put Brazil in back seat of the play and finally to win the match by an all time record of 7-1. This was a revenge for the 2-0 defeat in the final match of the 2002 world cup in Yokohama in Japan.

Man of Consistency

Germany is a consistent team in soccer world. Their four time successive entry to the semifinals of world cup football matches is the best proof for this consistency. Also this is the thirteenth time that Germany plays the semi final of world cup football matches. It is an all time record in soccer world. In such a team only a consistent player can continue with team for a record of twelve years. Klose had proved his consistency by being with the squad in all the four last world cup team of Germany that reached the semi finals.Still Klose is fit for some more years under the jersey of German national team. Miroslov Klose had scored 71 goals for the national team from 136 matches.

Germani's Uwe Seeler and football legend Brazil's Pele are the only players who scored in four world cup championships. It is more interesting that none of the world cup matches in which Klose scored goals was lost by Germany ( look the table below)
