North Queensland Fury
Introduction
North Queensland Fury are an Australian Soccer Team that compete in the A-League, the top level competition in Australia. North Queensland Fury are a newly formed team that are competing for the first time in Season 5 (2009-10) and are based in Townsville in North Queensland.
Formation
An A-League Franchise based in Townsville was first muted when the New Zealand Knights went into liquidation and their franchise was revoked. A group calling themselves Tropical Football Australia expressed an interest but Football Federation Australia (FFA) evetually plumped for leaving the franchise in New Zealand and allowing Wellington Phoenix to join the A-League.
For Season 4 there were two possible new franchises one from the Gold Coast called Gold Coast Galaxy and again one from Townsville called North Queensland Thunder. The FFA required certain financial guarantees and when North Queenslands major financial backer pulled out collapsing the bid the FFA decided not to grant either franchise as a nine-team competition was not in their best interests.
For Season 5 the FFA received ten bids for two new franchises for the A-League, two of which came from Townsville, one from the orginal North Queensland Thunder team. This bid was subsequently awarded the franchise and renamed themselves North Queensland Fury FC.

Season 5
North Queensland Fury started their first season in the A-League in very disappointing fashion in complete contrast to other newcomers Gold Coast United, failing to win their first 3 matches before drawing their fourth and fifth matches, however their sixth match saw them clinch victory for the first time.
However after their disappointing start the team continued to improve drawing a lot of games in the middle of the season before winning quite a few games towards the end. They ended up a very creditable 7th in the league at the end of their first season.
