Pacer view (Dunleavy)
Pacer view (Dunleavy)
With Mike Dunleavy struggling with knee problems this season, it has become more apparent to me that the ideal position for Dunleavy is as the sixth man.
Dunleavy has good basketball intelligence and can score well. He is also versatile enough to play either forward spot or shooting guard. He would be an excellent leader of the second unit. Despite the fact that he would be coming off the bench, Dunleavy should still be playing 25-30 minutes per game. Whether he is in late in the game would depend upon the situation and how well he has been playing.
Dunleavy could have a similar role as John Havlicek with the Celtics in the 1960's. With Dunleavy scoring 15 points per game off the Pacer bench, it would be a big lift for the team. Add Jeff Foster as a back up big man that will supply energy and rebounding along with Travis Diener's good assist to turnover ratio and the Pacer bench should be in pretty good shape.
