Predictions on Who Might Win the NHL Awards
The NHL awards
As the 19-20 season has been over and, we are heading to the postseason I think its time we look at the performances of players in the Regular season and decide which players are worthy of holding trophies.
Quinn Hughes Vancouver Canucks- Calder Memorial Trophy
The Calder Memorial Trophy is an award given to the best rookie player in the NHL and Quinn Hughes is no exception. The Vancouver Canucks Defensemen quickly became a key player in their lineup with 68GP 8G 45A 53P and quickly became important to the Canucks. While some might argue that Cale Makar from Colorado Avalanche deserves to win the Calder with 57GP 12G 38A 50P however his impact on the Avalanche wasn't that powerful as Hughes was with the Canucks.
Connor Hellebuyck - Vezina Trophy
The Vezina Trophy is Given to the best goaltender of the league, as they say, great goaltending wins games and with.922 Sv% and a 2.57 GAA with 31wins Connor Hellebuyck was crucial to the Winnipeg Jets success, without him the Jets could have been lower in the Central division. It is going to be a tight win for Connor as Tuukka Rask and Ben Bishop has a good chance too.
Leon Draisaitl- Hart Trophy
The Hart Trophy is an award given to the Best Player performance in the NHL and Leon Draisaitl with 71 Games played 43G 67A 110P had an unbelievable season already wining the art ross trophy with the most amount of points in the NHL. Honorable Mentions to win the Hart Trophy
1. Artemi Panarin (NYR) 2. David Pasternak (BOS) 3. Connor Mcdavid (EDM) 4.Nathan McKinnon (COL)
John Carlson Washington Capitals- Norris Trophy
We haven't seen such an offensive and defensive performance from a defenseman for a long play and that is why John Carlson deserves to win the Norris trophy as the capitals player played 69 games scoring 15 times and 60 assists with 75 points John Carlson leads the capitals in Points and is 4th in the league in terms of assists ahead of Brad Marchand Nathan Mackinnon Nikita Kucherov and Patrick Kane. There is No doubt that John Carlson deserves to win the Norris Trophy.
John Tortorella Columbus Blue Jackets- Coach of the year
While the Columbus came 5th in the metropolitan division everyone expected Columbus to be a lot lower because in the Offseason Columbus lost many its star players such as Artemi Panarin to the New York Rangers, Matt Duchene to the Nashville Predators and Sergei Bobrovsky their player of the decade to the Florida panthers and despite that, they came in 5th in the metropolitan division however the metropolitan division is the hardest division in the entire league and if Columbus were in the pacific in the division they would be third and they made the playoffs because of the 24 team format.
Sean Couturier Philadelphia Flyers- Selke award
Sean Couturier is a type of player that many coaches dream of having on their roster. Recently Sean Couturier has been putting up more offensive numbers while still maintaining a defensive role for the Flyers. With the help of Couturier, the Flyers came second in the metropolitan division which as mentioned before is one of the hardest divisions in the league.
Connor McDavid Edmonton Oilers -Ted Lindsay award
The Ted Lindsay Award is an award that goes to the league MVP voted by the players and my prediction to win is Connor McDavid. With 64 games played 34 goals and 63 assists and 97 points, Connor McDavid is in second place in terms of points and assists behind teammate Leon Draisaitl. McDavid has fewer games than Draisaitl and if he played more games his stats would surpass Draisaitl. This is a tough choice because the players vote who is the MVP of the league and there have been players like Panarin, MacKinnon, Pasternak, Eichel and Malkin who also deserve the Ted Lindsay award
Who Should win the Ted Lindsay award
