Premier League Hat-Trick Heroes

Updated on December 29, 2014

Hat-Trick King, Alan Shearer

Hat-Trick Heroes

Ever wondered who has scored hat-tricks in English Premier League football? Especially after just watching someone score one? You want to know who scored the fastest one, the best one or who has incredibly scored more than 3+ goals in a single match? Read on and i'll give you the low down on what you're after from the likes of Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler and Eric Cantona!

Premier League

Since the English Premier League was formed in 1992, more than 100 players have scored 3 goals or more in a single match and there has been 248 of them scored from season 1992/92 - 2011/12. The first player to ever score a Premier League hat-trick was Eric Cantona who scored 3 times for Leeds Utd in their 5-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. The fastest hat-trick in Premier League history was scored by Liverpool's Robbie Fowler in just 4 minutes 32 seconds against Arsenal.

The latest Premier League hat-trick to be scored was by Charlie Austin for QPR, 20th December 2014, helping his side fight back from a 2-0 deficit to claim an important 3-2 victory.

Consecutives

You think scoring a hat-trick is difficult enough to do once? Well let me tell you there are some very talented players out there who have actually scored back to back hat-tricks, only 4 have managed this extremely rare accomplishment and they are: Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright, Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney, no other football player has ever scored a hat-trick in consecutive matches! Unbelievable! There are some very talented footballers still around and youngsters coming up though, so will it ever be done by more than these 4 players? only time will tell!

Below i show you a hat-trick scoring chart, showing the top Premier League hat-trick scorers and how many they have scored and with many of these still playing, the tides could change, check it out.

Nobody has scored more hat-tricks than Alan Shearer!

More Than A Hat-Trick

As well as scoring 3 goals in a single game, footballers are known to score more, with plenty of players having actually scored 4 goals, however there are 4 extra special players who have somehow defied the odds and scored an incredibly massive 5 goals in one single match, those players are: Andrew Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe and Dimitar Berbatov. With only 4 people achieving this humongous goal tally just goes to show how difficult it is to do and why it very rarely happens in English football.

Will Alan Shearer EVER be overtaken?

See results

Conclusion

OK, so as far as hat-tricks go, Alan Shearer is the god of them, but will he ever be caught? or even overtaken?!? Will ANYBODY EVER score more Premier League hat-tricks than him? It doesn't look likely but obviously anything can happen, with Wayne Rooney on 6 and still a good few years ahead of him, maybe he will? Nobody knows what will happen, but for now, lets just enjoy watching football in anticipation of seeing more people score HAT-TRICKS!

I have a feeling that a certain Van Persie may need moving to a different box by the end of the season ;)
