Stephen Dixon Re-Signs for a 3rd Season
2019/20 Scott Matzka award winner returns for a 3rd season after joining the Devils from Grizzlys Wolfsburg of the DEL in 2018. Dixon has been a fantastic player for the Devils in his previous 2 seasons and has established himself as a fan favourite by giving 110% on every shift that he's on the ice including blocking shots with his head in Belfast.
During this shortened season, Dixon managed to score 33 points in 63 games in all competitions with 20 goals and 13 assists whilst spending most of his ice time on a line with Devils star wingers Joey Haddad and Charles Linglet. Dixon's signing puts him as the 2nd centre re-signed for 2020/21 after Joey Martin was confirmed 2 weeks ago and also creates significant depth at centre. Despite not scoring as many points as he did in his first season, Dixon's play allowed Haddad and Linglet to flourish with Haddad getting 57 points in league play.
Dixon was a key part for the Devils and has become part of the core that has consistently won games throughout the past few season. Dixon has been used in all situations for the Devils but has been fantastic on the PK with his ability to hound opponents causing mistakes that helped the Devils to a 80.53% PK%. Dixon ended the league season as a +6 showing his capabilities in both the offensive and defensive zones.
Dixon has scored 71 points (35+36) in 104 league games for the Devils over the past 2 seasons. In all competitions Dixon has 88 points (44+44) in 141 games giving him a points per game total of 0.624. Dixon works phenomenally hard to create chances for his line mates and has done very well in the face-off dot to earn possession for the Devils in key situations with his signature stick in the air behind the back stretch.
Dixon's resigning makes it 3 forwards resigned so far for the Devils for the 2020/21 EIHL season. The 3 players combined for a total of 119 points in league action including 55 of the Devils 162 goals (33.95%). Dixon creates valuable depth at centre behind Martin allowing the Devils to create multiple dangerous lines to scare opponents. Dixon's prestigious CV also makes him valuable for other players as he's played for teams in Europe's biggest leagues including the KHL, Liiga, SHL and DEL.
