The Official Fantasy Football Do Not Draft List 2009

Updated on September 8, 2009

Players that will Clear Your Stadium

Want your fantasy stadium to look like this? I didn't think so.
Want your fantasy stadium to look like this? I didn't think so.

Do Not Draft These Quarterbacks!

Kurt Warner is not worth a third round pick! He has been getting drafted over Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers. This absurd considering both out performed him in 2008 and will again in 2009. Coming off arthroscopic hip surgery to repair a torn labrum, his injury risks are too high to take a top pick for this aging star. Don’t believe the hype!

Michael Vick seriously if you draft Vick for your fantasy team you must be child. Vick is not guaranteed to play until week 6. He is not going to be a starter, so why waste a roster spot and draft pick on Vick. Drafting Vick is like drafting Troy Smith. You are drafting a backup who might pick up a handful of points once in a blue moon. It is astonishing people are drafting him. (He is the number 3 quarterback in Philly not number 2 like most believe)

Do Not Draft These Backs! You have been warned.

Marshawn Lynch is suspended the first 3 games of the season. That means Lynch has more time to get in trouble. He is suspended for concealing a loaded pistol, nine months after he was arrested for a hit-and-run. Not to mention he was pulled over with marijuana in his vehicle! With his pathetic excuse for an effort in 2008 he could lose his starting job or at least substantial touches to Fred Jackson. (If he drops into the later rounds go for it! A starter back for a 7th round pick or later is a steal)

Willie Parker are you really going to draft an injury prone back who won’t see goal line touches for a fifth round pick? I don not think so!

Knowshon Moreno  Denver may very well use a multiple running backs similar to the five headed monster in New England where Josh McDaniels the new head coach is from. Moreno could be this years Matt Forte but he could also be this years Sammy Morris. You are better off taking LenDale White or Reggie Bush. (Not a bad pick up in later rounds but a 5th round pick is too high)

Frank Gore Why take Gore in the second round when you could have Steve Slaton or Brandon Jacobs who are on actually good offenses? Gore has yet to repeat his 2006 success. Last season, he had 7 of 16 games with less than 10 fantasy points. Granted he did not play in two, still as a fantasy owner my goal is have a roster of starting players who will produce at least 10 points every week. Gore did average 10.8 a week but after the week 9 bye both rushing and receiving his numbers plummeted. If you can manage to get him for a third round pick go ahead but I feel a second round pick is a steep price to play for guy who might not be durable enough to play the entire season. Also, it is important to note he was not in the top ten for rushing attempts.

Joseph Addai Will be sharing carries with Donald Brown.

Marion Barber I was a huge Barber fan. Until last season when he had a horrible 3-point performance in 4 games, during fantasy playoffs!!! (To make it worse I refused to trade him even though he had a difficult playoff schedule.) This gets him on my do not draft list. Plus, Dallas has 2 other viable options.

Brandon Marshall Rebelling at Practice

Do Not Draft These Wide Receivers!

The football player formerly known as Chad Johnson has an average draft position of 54.6. I would not take this clown over DeSean Jackson who has an average draft position of 63.3. Want a Bengal receiver? Take a flyer on Chris Henry.

Braylon Edwards Stay away from anyone who plays professional football in Cleveland. Has an average draft position of 52.4. Wait and you can pick DeSean Jackson, Hines Ward or Lee Evans in the sixth round.

Brandon Marshall was my favorite NFL receiver for the last few years. But, Marshall is woman beater who enjoys getting arrested, so don't be surprised if he finds himself a season long suspension for any more misconduct. Marshall is also returning from hip surgery to a Denver team with a poor attitude and without Jay Cutler throwing him the ball. BREAKING NEWS:Marshall is suspended for conduct detrimental to the team for the rest of the preseason.

Santonio Holmes is a chump. He has had his trouble with the law for domestic violence and assault in 2006. In 2008, he was suspended by the Mike Tomlin after being arrested for marijuana. Holmes is not the primary red zone target (Hines Ward) in Pittsburgh and does not appear to be a motivated player with a dedicated work ethic.

Do Not Draft These Tight Ends

Jason Witten is not worth a fourth round pick! Especially with Martellus Bennett becoming a red zone threat last season. If you want an elite tight end with that pick, take Antonio Gates or Dallas Clark.

Kellen Winslow has too much of an injury risk to draft. Besides Bryon Leftwich does not utilize tight ends.
