Brief History of Football (Soccer)

A team game of rock ball was popular in ancient Mesoamerica culture however modern day football is traced to 19th century England. Another similar sport in 2nd century China is the Cuju including different ball games in ancient Greece.

In 16th century England a form of the game was player with huge numbers in a rough sometime violent way. This form sometime caused the death of any unfortunate player. Highly popular in British schools a meeting in Cambridge in 1848 changed the rules to accommodate some modern forms of the sport. Early clubs formed from 1824-1862 were Sheffield in 1855, Nott’s County 1862. However there was regular competition between Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England while the first FA Cup was in 1871.
