Top 8 Hard Hitting Concealed Carry Handguns

Updated on June 26, 2015

Hard Hitting Concealed Carries

We've already put out a list of the most popular handguns based off of our holster sales, a list we think would be helpful for someone looking to buy their first gun. This list might be a little more helpful for those of you that are already gun owners, but are looking for that every day piece to concealed carry. What we put together was a list of handguns that combine concealability, accuracy, and firepower that qualified them as a top choice for concealed carrying.

#8 Colt Mustang XSP

This mini-1911 will look and function similar to its bigger counterpart, and it boasts the quality .380 caliber. It's a very light polymer handgun, and the recoil and trigger are competitive. There are better choices out there for accuracy but not many can compete with the concealabilty of this gun.

Caliber: .380 ACP
Barrel: 2.75 inches
Size: 5.5inches
Weight: 12 oz. empty
Capacity: 6 round magazine
MSRP: $649

Colt Mustang XSP

#7 Colt New Agent Series

This gun was made specifically to reduce any complications when drawing from concealment. It's design helps keep the gun from snagging on your holster or clothing. The gun's trench sight is perfect for quick target acquisition, but could cause problems in low light. You won't have to shoot your target twice; the .45 ACP rounds are ideal for knocking down human attackers.

Caliber: .45 ACP
Capacity: 6+1
Weight: 24.5 oz
Length: 6.7″
Width: 1.26″
MSRP: $995.00

Colt 1911 New Agent

#6 Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield 9mm

It'll be hard to match the S&W M&P9 Shield if you're looking for an extremely light concealed carry. It only weights 19 oz and still manages to hold seven to eight rounds. Accuracy, comfort, reliability, and looks all receive top marks, a feat not many concealed carry handguns can achieve.

Caliber: 9mm
Capacity: 8 & 7 rounds
Weight: 19 ounces
Overall length: 6.1″
Price: $449 MSRP

S&W M&P9 Shield

#5 Springfield XDM Compact

Now as gun owners we've learned not to be scared of guns, but that shouldn't keep us from getting one that makes criminals shake in their boots. The Springfield XDM puts the word power in firepower; if you choose the extended mag you'll get an incredible 16+1 rounds. Despite it's giant capacity the gun is neither overly long nor heavy. Be prepared to pay a hefty sum for this monster.

Caliber: 9 mm
Capacity: 19 round w/ X-Tensions
Length: 6.75 inches
Weight: 29 oz
Price: $669

Springfield XDM Compact

#4 Bersa Thunder .380

It's not going to hit as hard as a .45, but it's going to hit. A fixed barrel adds the sort of accuracy that is hard to find in pistols small enough to conceal comfortably. It's reliability is no joke either; a light trigger and solid construction make this an admirable contender for the best handgun to conceal.

Caliber: 380
Capacity: 10+1
Weight: 18.9000
Length: 6.6"
MSRP: 349.98

Bersa Thunder .380

Beretta Nano

#3 Beretta Nano

Beretta has made a fine piece for the everyday concealed carry. It has no external tabs or controls to get caught on your holster or clothing. It has a 6 or 8 round option for people with smaller or larger hands, regardless this gun is small compared to many other concealed carry options. An affordable option with plenty of quality to make this a top pick for concealed carriers.

Caliber: 9mm
Capacity: 6+1
Length: 5.63”
Weight: 17.67oz.
MSRP: $475 (about $400 street)

Beretta Nano

#2 Kahr PM9

This gun's double action form allows for a quick draw and shoot for those more concerned with speed. Its profile makes it easy to draw and holster quickly; it's thin and very light. The size and power makes this gun a fine choice for the concealed carrier, just be prepared to buy a sizable amount for this little gun.

Caliber: 9mm
Capacity: 6+1, 7+1 (magazine with grip extension)
Length: 5.42″
Weight: 14 ounces
MSRP: 719.99

Kahr PM9

#1 HK45C

Many people will claim this is gun the very best, and it happens to be our favorite as well. It is very concealable, the accuracy is top notch, and it has a manstopping caliber. It sounds simple but when those three categories are 5 star it becomes very hard to top. Most guns small enough to conceal comfortably cannot attain top level performance, but the HK45C is in a class of its own.

Caliber: 45ACP
Capacity: 8 or 10
Length: 7.24"
Weight: 28 ounces
MSRP: 900.00+

This list is the farthest thing from an objective review of all handguns—our personal opinions and preferences played a large part in creating this list. We're always looking for your input; leave a comment below and tell us if we were dumb not to include a certain gun in the list, we greatly appreciate any feedback.

Now .380 ACP is considered "hard hitting"? Wow.

I actually thought I'd see only .40 S&W and larger. Even 9mm is not truly "hard hitting" unless it's +P. Where are the 10mm? Thought for sure at least one would make an appearance. And yes, you can easily make a list of at least a dozen very, or at least quite concealable handguns in .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and 10mm. I would consider all of those "hard hitting".
