Underwater Digital Camera Swim Mask

Updated on May 1, 2012

Glendon and his wife have led church ministries, conducted empowerment seminars, and travelled to faraway places on business and vacation.

Once upon a time a swim mask was for… what again?

Dictionary.com says it's "a device consisting typically of a transparent glass or plastic panel fitted into a flexible rubber gasket that fits snugly around the eyes, over the cheeks, and usually over the nose: used by skin divers".

Well, my friend, that describes the kind you see in movies and magazines, or that you use for your own swimming and diving even.

Masks like these kept the world of underwater photography separated from the world of the mask; you wore a mask to see clearer but you captured the images with a camera. Anything else would be a stretch of the imagination. I mean, a camera in the mask sounds very science fiction. Right?

Forget it. This is better than science fiction, baby. For we are in the land of cutebitz.com, a world of gadgets, gifts and gizmos operating out of the UK. Their online store looks like the perfect Internet corner shop for geeks and the forever young. We are talking mess-less chargers, condiment guns, and illoon balloons.

The product which has my attention today is the Liquid Image Digital Camera Mask which is listed at £89.95 including VAT. Not bad for 5 megapixels of underwater digital performance.

With a regular underwater digital camera you use your hands so you are swimming awkwardly. Going under with the underwater digital camera swim mask means that your hands are free while swimming.

The marketers at www.cutebitz.com say that:

“This is the worlds only swim mask that has an integrated waterproof digital camera, eliminating the need to carry an underwater camera, keeping your hands free as you swim. The 5 MP camera can operate to a depth of 15 feet, making it ideal for use when snorkelling or in swimming pools.”

Talk about taking your diving experience to new levels. There is no audio but you can edit later and add some effects of lapping waves and splashing feet over your favourite tropical music.

Micro SD Card Memory

The masks eye pieces are made of tempered glass and are supplied with crosshairs which help you to line up shots easily.  What you see is what you get, even underwater.   The internal memory is only 16 MB which translates into 30 high resolutions pictures (2560 x 1920) or up to 52 seconds of video.

The Liquid Image Digital Camera mask comes with a Micro SD card slot which allows you to expand memory up to 2GB.

Underwater Photography

You line up your composition with the integrated crosshairs and simply press the shutter button to take pictures or videos

And to remind you of what is going on in the device, an LED inside the mask tells you if you are in still picture or video mode.
