WRESTLING is FAKE! – Can People Be More Wrong?

Avid fan of Wrestling writes about WWE, AEW, NJPW. I love to write stories, articles and poems.

At the age of seven I watched my first wrestling match. Edge and Christian took on The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley) and the Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff Hardy) in the first ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match at WrestleMania. Till date it is one of the best matches I have ever seen. The three teams almost killed each other. Throughout the years I have seen so many great matches and I have enjoyed the product to the fullest. The only thing that makes me irate is when people ask me “ Why do you watch wrestling? It is fake.” And most of the time the people who tell me ‘Wrestling is fake’ would have hardly seen five matches in their entire lifetime. It is now a growing debate all the time, -- People who are not a fan of the wrestling only have one argument against it and it is that ‘Wrestling is fake.’ And us wrestling fans have been counter arguing that statement by saying it is entertaining to us. I am now here to put in my two cents on why I do not believe wrestling is FAKE!!

Just like every other kid that watches wrestling, I believed wrestling was real and was scared for the lives of those wrestling. Obviously I was too young to watch such an extreme match and I did not watch anything related to wrestling after that. When playing with my friends in our tennis court etc. I would hear stories about different wrestlers and different matches and I didn’t know most of them. I would feel left out but I never really started watching it again. Well that was mostly because my mom would never let me watch it.

A few years flew by, my mom gave me some leeway and I started re-watching wrestling. I missed a lot of wrestling in the past 5 years. But ever since then I have not stopped watching wrestling. It has been a part of my childhood and grew along with me.

Enough of my story let me start talking about the reason why I started writing this. Everyone says wrestling is not real and of course it isn’t, but that does not mean it is fake. In fact my argument is that wrestling is way more real than most of the movies and other TV shows that most people love watching. I was born and brought up in India, and there it is absolutely mind-boggling for me when people can cheer a man in the movies who can beat up tens and fifteen men but call two superstars who actually risk there lives to entertain us as fake. The action scenes in the movies take days to perfect and so many takes and re-takes and we finally get the finished product. Every high-flying action sequences in movies involve ropes and the stunt men have tons of protection such as mattresses cushions etc. to keep them safe from getting injured. The wrestlers have none of these advantages. No ropes, the superstars perform their same stunts, no mattresses for protection and no re-takes, this is all live. Yet this is all fake and we wrestling fans are stupid for watching it while people watch and cheer the unrealistic entertainment called cinema.

Think about it, wrestlers perform high-flying action without any help such as ropes or stunt men. They perform their moves themselves and do it to absolute perfection every single time. In comparison to wrestling and movies, I would say Wrestling is a live stage play it just involves more hard-work to entertain people.

Another argument that the wrestling haters impose on us is that “if you like fighting watch actual sports such as boxing and UFC” that is a valid point but well UFC and boxing all take place only on certain dates while wrestling is available to us throughout the year. We also have several wrestling promotions to watch and enjoy such as WWE, NXT, AEW, New Japan Pro Wrestling and several other independent wrestling promotions to treat us. Moreover we like sports but we prefer sports entertainment.

Wrestling vs Movies

"Wrestling is a live stage play it just involves more hard-work to entertain people live"

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that people should only watch wrestling and shouldn’t watch anything else. All I am saying is do not degrade wrestling or the fans of wrestling please appreciate everything. Even though I say most movies are unrealistic, I enjoy all movies, boxing, UFC and wrestling equally. I just want everyone to appreciate everything just like how I do.
