Weekend Wristlock: 3 Reasons Why Becky Lynch Should Win the Title at Summerslam
Now, if you read my Smackdown Takeaways (which I HIGHLY suggest you do, as they are absolutely the best thing since sliced butter, as a friend of mine would say), then you may have seen something like this coming. Week after week I write about how Becky Lynch should get her opportunity, how she's the most underused superstar on the roster, etc.
Now that the "Lass Kicker" is getting a chance at Summerslam, it only makes sense that I give three reasons why she needs to come out victorious.
3. She Deserves It
This point isn't debatable, considering how talented she is. Becky Lynch is one of the "Four Horsewomen" coming out of NXT, and arguably the best in-ring wrestler of the four. Lynch is a great performer, and has been working hard despite not getting the recognition she deserves.
Becky has the resume, being the first ever Smackdown Women's champion, but no one ever seems to remember that fact. This is all just another example of how underrated she really is.
2. Could This Be Her Last Chance?
This may sound silly, considering she's only 31 years old, but this could legitimately be Becky's last chance at the title. Considering she has mainly been used as a midcard wrestler in the women's division for most of her WWE career, there isn't much evidence of her getting a significant boost other than right now.
Also, with the rise of NXT and the constant influx of women wrestlers, there will be no shortage of potential stars in the near future. This puts an added pressure on Becky to win now, before more upcoming stars take some of the spotlight away.
Who should win at Summerslam?
1. Charlotte Flair Heel Turn
By far the most interesting result that could come out of a Becky Lynch title run (other than the fact that she won, of course) is the potential story that she and Charlotte Flair could tell. Flair has been dealing with an injury and has been out of action for several months, and says she wants to return by the end of August.
Summerslam takes place on August 19th, so the timing could match up perfectly. They could easily have Charlotte return to congratulate her good friend before turning heel and assaulting the new champion. This could lead into a simple jealousy storyline, with Flair claiming Lynch "isn't worthy of holding the belt", since Charlotte was only defeated because of a triple team assault.
I must say, I'd be very much into this story, as I feel Charlotte is much better as a heel (as Flairs tend to be), and the matches that'd follow would tear the house down time and time again. This type of rivalry would also put quite a spotlight on Becky Lynch, which obviously, I'd be a major proponent for.
