So You Are Bored

We have all experienced it: a moment in time we either have nothing to do or, more accurately, can't find something to do. It may sound trivial but boredom can be difficult to overcome may even lead to depression and suicide thoughts, if extreme enough. For the most part, boredom is simply annoying and unfulfilling but with the right guidance, you can make bored a thing of the past making your every hour worthwhile. Time gone is time we will never get back. So here are 10 things to do when you are bored.

Engage In Sport or Physical Activity

Sport can be a great way to get the body as well as the mind active. It provides a constructive outlet for pent up energy and a safe way to have fun. You don't even have to engage in sport but any physically intense activity such as taking a jog or exercising. This can be a good way to relax the mind getting it off stressful thoughts and at the same time increase your fitness and get your body in shape. This is sure to get you feeling better when depressed or burdened in whatever way giving you a high unlike any other. All that is needed is the first step.

Be Creative - Invent Something

This does not necessarily have to be something new or original. There are literally thousands of tutorials and ideas on the internet that provide instruction on how to craft and item. The range of items you can make is also very large. You can start on one end with something as simple as how to draw or origami, that is, the use of paper to create 3D constructs. On the other end that entails more extreme creations you can learn how to melt aluminium and plastics for use of raw materials to create tools of war like armour, swords, bows and even axes. This is really the more hardcore side of crafting but you may also choose anything in between. You may even the realm of animation of 3D computer modelling Let your imagination(and hence creations) run wild.

Read/Write Literature

This is a great way to engage the mind if you don't feel for that physical session. Reading a book engages the mind while at the same time relaxing it and can act as a stress reliever. It can expand your knowledge in a discipline without ever needing a teacher. Books can give you an emotional rollercoaster ride if chosen well and provide an engaging story that will leave you fascinated, all within the confines of your home.

You can also write a book either for fun or with the full intent of publication. This is an excellent way of expressing yourself getting rid of pent up frustration and feelings as well as sharing your ideas and thoughts. If you have an imaginative mind be sure to try this one. It does not even have to be a storybook. It could be a poem and/or could consist of just a few lines. Don't push yourself too hard, just let it flow.

Meditate

Just taking a few minutes a day to meditate can boost your health significantly. Meditation improves your happiness, creativity ad immune system, all the while decreasing your blood pressure, anxiety and tension-related pains. Apart from these meditation has many other physical and mental benefits. It can be a great way to pass time and is especially important with the lifestyle of the modern Western World. We spend too many hours stressing over problems as well as stressing our bodies from long hours of sitting on computer and smartphones with our bodies bent at odd angles. Medication can be a great way to rejuvenate and revitalize the body through a non-intense means.

Do A Puzzle

Sure, this one may sound childish and maybe it even is. However, the fact remains that puzzle solving, although simple, can be on of the most mentally exhausting things you can do. Simple does not translate to easy. This is a great way to challenge yourself and is sure to bring back some childhood memories. Truth be told, jigsaw puzzles are still one of the most amazing inventions to date. Don't let the kids have all the fun.

Use Your Kitchen

The arts are the typical means of expressing yourself, but this doesn't mean it is the only one. Cooking or baking can be a great way to get in touch with your creative side. The newbies can simply choose a recipe using the main ingredient of their choice from the Internet. This is a nice one for those who have always had a love for cooking or simply wish to develop that Grandma's touch. You can also cook or bake if you have some extra ingredients you want to get rid of.

Take Up Gardening

Pretty much everybody wants to be able to walk out their house and pick their seasoning herbs and a few fruit too. This saves on the annoying trips to the market and getting ripped off by ridiculously inflated prices and spoiled vegetables. Gardening isn't even difficult, how hard can sticking a seed in the dirt be. That might be a bit of euphemism but it really isn't that difficult. After the initial set-up process, you get to sit back and watch the fruits of your labours grow.

Clean Your House

Unless you have just recently cleaned your entire house this should be something on your list. You can always pass the broom here, swipe a cloth there or give the floor a mop. It is always a great feeling to walk into a room and know that it's fresh and clean. You also wouldn't have had any second thoughts about inviting someone over.

Learn Something New

You can find many topics of interest to you and engage in a bit of self-education. This can be in the form of text or of an instructional video. It's really up to you if you want this activity to be passively or actively engaging. There is always something that we want to know or learn but simply haven't the time to do it. If you find the time to be bored you are sure to find the time to learn something new.

Practice Your Skills

Naturally, we all desire things in life and have goals and dreams. To be successful and achieve these dreams we must have the necessary skills associated with the goals. Practising these are sure ways to improve and better ourselves. This can increase our motivation and self-esteem. You never know, the little time spent improving on these skills can be the little bit of extra skilled needed to succeed and be better than the rest. All little things add up.
