Where is the best place you have ever been Mountain biking?

Updated on February 27, 2013

what mountain bike trial is the best you have ever been on?

Which mountain bike trail that gave you the best thrill?

Do you still go back to the same place?

What makes this place so good?

And finally is there any other reason that you found it so memorable?

My own experience

Speaking for myself my favourite mtb track would have to be the one I can do from my home in Hilltown which is located in the heart of the mourne mountains, Northern Ireland.

The reason you may well ask is fairly simple, it was the first time I went out on my own after my wife bought me a new mountain bike for christmas, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect and if I am being totally honest I thought I was in for a disappointment, I was wrong.

After a 15 minute cycle over the road to the bottom of Leitrim Lodge which by the way was used just this weekend past (25/08/12) to film some scences for Game of Thrones. Now the options when I arrived at leitrim lodge were very simple, either take the 3 mile very steep uphill track to the top of the mountain or follow a track that runs along the base of the mountain, As you will have guessed I followed the track along the base, at first it was fairly easy going, following a dirt track up and down for a couples of mile before coming to section that is very stoney and in some parts unable to cycle over, once past this it is again a failry easy run to yellow water in Rostrevor.

Cycling back I couldn't help but think, this is me, I love this, legs caked in mud, blood dripping from my knee, grazes on my elbows and arms from falling over the handle bars on numerous occasions but it was well and truely worth it. After that intitial first spin out I made it my business to get out whenever I could, going on different routes, finding wee tracks that soemtimes came to a dead end but always enjoying it.

In a way I am lucky as where I live is ideal for someone interested in mountain biking and although I love the area I am sure there are plenty of people out there on the same boat as me and if you are please let me know.

I have been lucky enough to ride in a number of countries. For road cycling I love the Serra Tramuntana Mountains of Majorca and for Mountain Biking I had a fantastic experience over in Turkey a few years ago on the Lycian Coast.
