A Coleman Propane Lantern Buying Guide

Using a propane lantern at camp sites could be an excellent way to fully enjoy your camp nights with your friends and family while camping. And of course you want to purchase a reliable lantern to bring with you. Surely this would be the reason why are you looking for a Coleman propane lantern. After all, Coleman makes a good range of camping lanterns and some of the best propane lanterns on the market. So, if you are looking for a good propane lantern to buy, it makes a lot of sense to check Coleman.

In this Hub I will feature some of the most popular Coleman propane lanterns available at Amazon at the moment of writing this page. The good thing about Amazon is that it is not only one of the most trusted retail stores online, something that it is not always easy to find online, but also a good place to find good prices.

Coleman Deluxe PerfectFlow Two-Mantle Propane Lantern with Hard Case Model 5155B702

The most popular model in Amazon at the moment of writing this page. A good lantern with a very reasonable price. Nothing spectacular but it does exactly what it is supposed to do without problems. It is very simple to assemble, it is light for a two-mantle propane lantern. And most important at all it is as bright as you will ever need. The downsides? it is noisy, as all propane lanterns are, and it has a delicate globe, that is why the hard case comes in handy. Having said that, a good value for the money.

  • Lantern measures approximately 12” x 8” x 7.5”
  • Lantern weighs 3.7 pounds empty
  • Lantern uses a 16.4 oz. Coleman propane cylinder

Coleman Northstar PerfectFlow InstaStart Propane Lantern with Soft Case Model 2000004423

If you looking for a very bright propane lantern with an electronic ignition system, then this Northstar model could be exactly what you are looking for. It is really bright with 1543 lumens when it is adjusted on high. The construction is robust, a little heavy, tough. You don't need matches to light it, thanks to the InstaStart ignition system, you only have to push a button for lighting. And it includes a soft case. If you want this model with a hard case or even with no case at all, Amazon sells them too.

  • It measures approximately 12" x 7.5" x 6"
  • It weighs 4.2 pounds empty
  • It uses a 16.4 oz. Coleman propane cylinder

Coleman PerfectFlow Compact Lantern Model 5132B700

If your main concern at the hour of buying a propane lantern is weight, then consider this PerfectFlow Compact model, it only weights 1.3 pounds. Of course is not as bright as the previous models, only 273 lumens, but for its weight it may be good for a backpacking party. However, in my opinion, it is not recommendable for solo backpacking or hiking, because it is too bulky with the propane cylinder. A thing for which this model really stands out is the duration of the cylinder, a single propane cylinder could last up to 12 hours, almost for a week trip if you are careful with your settings. This is the basic model, but Coleman sells a version with the Instastart ignition system, if you don't want to fiddle arount with matches that can be found at Amazon too.

  • It uses a 16.4 oz. Coleman propane cylinder
  • it measures 7 x 4.9 x 3.8 inches
  • it weights 1.3 pounds empty

Coleman Elite PerfectFlow InstaStart Propane Lantern Model 5177-A52

An intermediate model between the Coleman Deluxe and the NorthStar. It is bighter than the Deluxe, but not as bright as the NorthStar. The same can be say about the price and the robustness of the construction. The advantage over the Deluxe is that it comes with the Instastart electronic ignition mechanism.

Coleman Pinnacle PerfectFlow InstaStart Lantern

This is the top propane lantern made by Coleman and of course is the brightest and the most expensive too. It has two clear advantages over the previous cheaper models. First the lantern is designed to store inside itself, this is really handy to save space. And second it is really easy to install the mantles, there is no need to tie anything or to cut off surplus strings. So what's the catch? It is expensive and the cylinder only last five hours, this is the price you pay for having a very bright lantern.

Coleman Propane Lantern Accessories

Besides, Coleman offers a series of accessories to use with their lanterns. A useful, but perhaps unnecessary lantern stand. This stand is something that you want to have in your campsite, but it is very difficult to justify buying it or carrying it with you. Cases for your lanterns, if you bought them without the cases and of course the propane cylinders.
