Can Eugenie Bouchard Make It To Number One in Tennis Rankings?
It is a great time to be a Canadian tennis fan. We have Milos Raonic who has been doing well on the Men's side and now we have Eugenie Bouchard starting to take the Women's side by storm.
You would have to look all the way back to Carling Bassett-Seguso and (Hurricane) Helen Kelsei in the 80's to see another Canadian female player so close to the top ten in the rankings.
That was when I was a kid and taking tennis lessons in the summertime. Hopefully Eugenie will inspire a new generation to get involved in the sport.
Her latest Grand Slam tournament was played in Australia at The Australian Open. She had a pretty good tournament winning her first four matches. 6-1, 5-7, and 6-2 versus Begu, 7-5, 6-0 over Garcia, 6-0, 6-3 against Bertens, then she beat Friedsam 6-2, 6-4 to get to the quarter finals versus Sharapova. Unfortunately Sharapova won 6-3,6-2.
In 2014 she made history by becoming the first Canadian (man or woman) to make the Quarter Finals at Wimbledon. Then made it again by getting into the Semis and then into the Final. She made it to at least the Semi Final in 3 out 4 Grand Slams that were played in 2014!
This fantastic showing has her sitting ranked at # 7 in the world (beating the previous Canadian record set by Bassett- Seguso at #8).
Who Will be the New Coach for Eugenie Bouchard
She currently has someone sitting in her corner, but they are not an official coach. she has said she is looking for someone who has been there (top of the rankings).
If that's what she wants I hope she finds them, but I also hope it is someone who can help her game and not just mental. Every time she plays the analysts mention issues with her back hand not being reliable. I hope the person she picks can help her with that.
Genie Bouchard Names Sam Sumyk as New Coach
Genie revealed Sam Sumyk as her new coach through a tweet. He does appear to have the credentials she said she was looking for in a new coach. He was the coach of Victoria Azarenka when she the worlds number one ranked female tennis player. Now the question is can he do the same thing for Genie?
Eugenie Bouchard Pictures
If you are looking for a gift for a fan, you can get an autographed picture of Eugenie Bouchard. These are not reprints but the actual signed items and they both come with a certificate of authenticity.
Genie Bouchard Twitter and Other Links
There are official sites where you can learn more about her and see plenty of pictures of her both on and off the court. She is a good person to follow as she is fairly active with her social media accounts. You can check them out with the links below.
She Keeps Making Canadian Tennis History
She has already been ranked as high as # 12 in the world in June of 2014. She was the first Canadian woman to ever reach the Austrailian Open Semi finals. Only one other Canadian woman has made the Semi finals at a Grand Slam tournament and that was Carling Bassett Seguso all the way back in 1984 at the US open.
She is already in the top ten and she is only 20 years old so she has time on her side. Her game is already pretty phenomenal with a great serve and an even better return game. She has a knack for the strategy side of the game as well. With a few more Center Court matches under her belt against the top players she will only get better. I not only believe that she will make the Top Ten in the WTA rankings, I think she has a legitimate shot at someday being # 1.
With her phenomenal showing at Wimbledon making it all the way to the Finals (another Canadian first). She moved her ranking up to # 7 in the world. Up next is The Rogers Cup which is played in her home province of Montreal in Canada. First Round play starts on August 4 2014 and the Championship game will be held on August 10 2014.
Eugenie Bouchard Interviews
It is a great sport if you don't want to have to buy a lot of expensive equipment. A tennis racket and tennis balls is really all you need. There are usually courts that you can play on locally for a very nominal fee and some are even free.
Tennis is great sport to take up at any age. My Aunt is still playing into her 60's. I started playing when I took lessons as a little kid.
I bet the place where I took my lessons wishes that they had the low bounce balls back when I was a kid. The courts that I played on were surrounded by a fence, but some how I always managed to hit quite a few over the fence.
If you are looking to get into the sport this is a great racket to get you started.
First WTA Tour Win
I believe that her first WTA tour win in Germany at the 2014 Nürnberger Versicherungscup. will help to give her the confidence that she will need to win a Grand Slam. Sometimes you just need that first breakthrough win to know that you can go the distance.
Winning the Junior Wimbledon title gave her the confidence to go pro. Perhaps that first WTA win will be the boost she needs to win the senior title.
She did extremely well at her very next Grand Slam tournament the French Open making it all the way to the Semi finals. There she lost to the eventual winner, and one of her idols, Maria Sharapova in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
I think it would be difficult to face off against one of your idols and yet it was a close match. I think this match will have her better prepared for the next time they face each other. I hope I am right as Sharapova is one of the top ranked players and if she wants to be number one she will have to be able to beat her to get there.
