Runners often enjoy listening to music while out running. It's just one more thing to break up the occasional monotony of suffering in silence. However, listening to music – and drowning out the surrounding environment – puts pedestrians and athletes at risk.
Around 40% of pedestrian-related accidents occur at intersections, with more than half of fatal pedestrian incidents occurring at night, according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
To combat this problem, some companies are working on new products with safety in-mind. Audio market SOUL Electronics announced late last year the introduction of its X-SHOCK Transparent Edition earphones – sporting LED lights, designed to help improve athlete safety. The earphones utilize a “sleek transparent case with bright LED light for night-time jogging.”
As noted by Patrick Tang, CEO of Soul Electronics: ”We're pleased to announce this highly anticipated Indiegogo campaign that aligns with our goal of providing our customers with sport earphones that also provide them with another barrier of protection, allowing them to workout at their preferred time of day. Exercise happens at different times of the day and we want to ensure that our customers feel safe, regardless of time, when they are trying to fit a workout into their busy schedule.”
The SOUL Electronics X-SHOCK Transparent White is available for $149 plus shipping on Indiegogo. The product will start shipping this March.
