    Players or Championships?

What makes a rivalry great, the players that play (or played) for a franchise or the championships that franchises accumulate through the years?

That's a hard one.  The players make a serious rivalry, by playing against each other, and hating one another.  The Championships are kind of what fans fight over.  Sometimes, rivalries are because of the fans, and not for either of those.

Good question.  I think it's a combination of both.  In the NFL, I think it's more about PLAYERS.  Think of Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr vs Tom Landry and Don Meredith.

But in college, there are a plethora of famous rivalries that have new characters year in and year out; yet, the rivalries are still intense.  It does help though, if both teams are good tongue.
