Can holding your breath improve my overall cardio / fitness level?
I mean holding my breath while just sitting at my desk, not while working out. Can holding my breath improve lung capacity or improve my cardio conditioning in any way?
Probably not. The first part of any exercise program (or stress relief techniques) is steady breathing. Since oxygenating the blood is a good thing, I can't imagine a scenario where less breathing would be healthier. You can train your lungs to hold it longer, if you're a deep sea diver, but for everyday people, you're probably better off breathing more.
