I'm 68 yo and I would like to run a marathon September 26, 2010. I've registered and I did my first mile today. I have anywhere from an hour to two hours during the week and unlimited on the weekends.

would anybody have any advice for me. I have a couple of books and I'm going to write a journal to keep tarck of my progress.

Stick to what the pros say. They have some very detailed ways to train for marathons that work well.

The main thing is don't train so much that you get injured.  I recommend the Jeff Galloway run/walk method.  He's got a website and some books you might want to check out.  The run/walk just means alternating between running and walking, instead of just running.  I did it for a half marathon, and my sister-in-law did it for a marathon.
