Treadmill Book Holders - Magazine Racks and Stands For Treadmills

Updated on July 3, 2013

A treadmill book rest opens up a wide variety of ways to entertain yourself while you burn off some pounds. Let's be honest, a running machine is one of the least interesting fitness machines in the gym and that's why you want to have as many distractions on hand as possible to make your workout go faster. Reading during exercise is one of the ways people pass the time and treadmill reading racks allow you to do this hand free which is pretty much a necessity if you are going to use this machine safely and be comfortable doing so.

Most exercise machines already come with a built in magazine holder but in fairness, most of these are woefully poor at doing the job for which they were designed because they are too narrow to do the job properly. If you want a book holder for a treadmill or a decent secure magazine shelf or tablet computer stand then you are going to need to spend a little cash on one of the thankfully inexpensive treadmill book holders on the market today. These will provide a wide stable platform upon which to rest books, magazines etc. and are easy to use and require minimal installation making them ideal for the home or for taking with you to a gym or health club.

The following selection of treadmill book rests, reading stands and accessories will give you plenty of ways to read in comfort while you do your daily work out.

Personally, I got sick of music and TV pretty fast and prefer to immerse myself in some good reading material whether that is in print form or on my tablet. The cool thing here is any of these stands will allow you to do both with ease and they're small and lightweight enough to slip into a backpack and take along with you without having to worry about one taking up a lot of room or whether your gym has their own and if they do, if they're going to be available when you get there.

It's funny how such a simple thing can turn a monotonous activity like working out, which many of us know is necessary to maintain good health but often come to hate, into something pleasurable and even something to look forward to. For me, that hour in the gym each morning is one of the few times throughout my week where I actually get some "me time" where I can read in peace without a whole heap of interruptions.

This no frills shatter resistant treadmill reading rack is a simple yet perfect solution to lack of decent book or magazine holder on a treadmill. It is designed to fit over most consoles easily with no installation required making it a go anywhere solution. The book rack hooks over the top of the console and provides a sturdy platform upon which to stand books, magazines, ereader devices like the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes & Noble Nook. It is wider on one end so it is perfect for thicker consoles or for reading heavy text books or other thicker reading material. It is made from very strong plastic so it is tough and durable and is not going to crack, chip or shatter like some of the cheaper ones you might have seen in your gym. Not only is this a book holder for treadmill machines but it is also ideal for many other pieces of gym equipment, so if you need a reading rack for exercise bikes, elliptical trainers, rowing machines or steppers, then this simple inexpensive solution is for you.

The FlipKlip Page Clamp book holder is the perfect companion to book stands for treadmills. Once you have mounted your treadmill reading rack onto your exercise machine you are ready to stand books and magazines on it ready to read. However, you still have the problem of keeping the pages open to the page you are reading and you'll still need an easy way to turn the page without fumbling around with the book whilst you are jogging along. That's where the FlipKlip Page Clamp comes into play. The FlipKlip is a handy little gadget which truly makes reading a book on a treadmill a hands free experience. You simply open the book or magazine to the page you are on, clamp the FlipKlip to the top of the book and the page stays open exactly where you left it. When you want to turn the page the FlipKlip makes this easy too as you simply slide the facing page out from under the prong holding it in place and slide it under the one on the facing page. There's a video of this in action to follow as its a little hard to explain but so easy to use you'll love it. The FlipKlip isn't just great for the treadmill but also for other times when you want to go hands free like when you are studying, or following a recipe in a cookbook. The FlipKlip book holder can be taken anywhere as its small, lightweight and will fold up to a smaller size to make it easy to slip into a purse, pocket or gym bag.

Typically book holders for treadmills slide over the console itself which gives them a firm stable platform upon which to rest but this does mean that at least whilst you have a book on the book stand, you can't see what the console display is saying. It also does make it harder to reach the console buttons if, for example, you want to do something like manually adjust the speed or the incline. If that's not a problem for you then types of treadmill book mounted racks and shelves will no doubt be ideal for you. For others, who like to see the feedback on such things as time, distance and current incline and heart rate which the console shows you on a good treadmill, you will have to look at the range of mounted treadmill clamp holders or floor standing book holders instead.

It was designed to eliminate tired hands, kinked necks and sore arms people experience from reading for extended periods of time by floating the book right in your line of sight in sitting, standing, reclining or laying flat positions.
