Collagen the Anti Aging Booster

Updated on January 23, 2016

Anti Aging Skincare and Collagen Production

The truth is we all want young looking skin, but as we get older the collagen that used to be a Type 3 is now a Type 1! Yes collagen is essential because it gives structure to our cells. It works hand in hand with elastin in supporting the bodys tissues. This provides firmness in our tissues, it is collagen that gives it form while the elastin gives it flexibility. As we age the skin losses elasticity and its capacity to retain moisture. Truth be told, our body produces less of it causing our skin to lose its fullness and so wrinkles form. Free radicals, the sun, pollution are responsible for the breakdown of collagen. We all want to look younger and with so many breakthroughs in the skin care world, collagen is something we all should know more about.

What is Collagen

Collagen is the most important and abundant protein formed by a number of amino acids. Its main function is to sustain hydration in the skin. Collagen grows naturally in the body, but starts to decrease in adults, beginning at age thirty. At fifty, the human body produces only 35% of the collagen necessary for sustaining the skin and other organs. There are many types of collagen found throughout the body…such as in the connective tissues, cartilages, organs (including the liver, kidneys, and spleen). It’s also in the neural system, the eyes and in the muscles and skeletal cells. And it is great for wrinkles that come with age.

The Importance of Collagen

As people age, collagen degradation occurs, leading to wrinkles.

The Benefits of Collagen

In Anti Aging Skincare

Tighter Skin

The skin starts to sag when collagen in our system becomes depleted. This happens as the skin has little support structure internally and therefore it looses its firmness.

Less Cellulite

Cellulite is the name for collections of fat formed under a person’s skin. With time, as we age the support structure of our tissues becomes weakened.

Fewer Stretch Marks

When there is a healthy collagen support the skin is more resilient to weight gain.

The Different Types of Collagen

Type 1

The most abundant collagen in the body. This type is found in the tendons, skin and tissues. It can also be found in scar tissue.

Type II, IX, X, XI

These types are found in the cartilage.

Type III

This is most common in children and tissue that grows rapidly, like at the beginning when a wound starts to heal. The abundance of the type III collagen is partly responsible for the softnessa babys skin. Later on in life this type turns into Type I collagen.

Vitamin C

Collagen and Vitamin C

When the body is deprived of Vitamin C, collagen production breaks down. In an easy way to understand, collagen is the glue that holds the body together and is responsible for skin's elasticity. It is Vitamins C's job to interact with amino acids within collagen cells for it adds hydrogen and oxygen to those amino acids, so that they may do their part in collagen production.

In the scientific world, the water-soluble vitamin C is known as ascorbic acid (meaning "without scurvy," the disease caused by a vitamin C deficiency).

Topical Vitamin C, whose capacity to stimulate both type I and III collagen has been shown in a number of studies

Collagen Injections

For Younger Looking Skin

There are so many different collagen treatments on the market, and out of this collagen injection is probably the most talked about treatment in the media. It is because it is associated with actors and models.Designed for the treatment of wrinkles and minor skin depressions Injectable collagen is an easy way to go. With an average cost of $350 per treatment ,it is a very costly method of providing collagen to the skin. Collagen injections often produce an immediate results, but it does cause pain and swelling. And the results of this treatment only lasts for a short time, therefore more money and more pain to come.

That was an extensive and super informative hub. As a man, I tend to not worry about my skin and just expect it to wrinkle up and dry out but I'm not a big fan of the idea. It sounds like most of the steps to keep your skin tight and fresh looking are good health tips as well so it is a win-win all around. It is what is happening with the hands that freak me out. Those paws have looked better!

I know i've been delinquent in my "Jia Yu" cheerleading job. Life can sometimes send you on a spin but here i'm back on track. Anyway, very interesting hub. I didn't know about collagen type 1 and III--now, that explains everything. You've also introduced us to many products that can help plump the skin and restore youth. Overall, great layout with arresting visuals. What can I can? You outdid yourself, my Jia Yu girl. Rated it up and of course, Jia Yu!
