Blue Jade

There is a not very common, but beautiful jade that is known as blue jade. There is a “glow” in blue jade, meaning it shines a little and according to many cultures, resembles the sky and heavens. Blue jade can have a wide variation of different colors, ranging from metallic blue, ocean blue, sky blue, blue-green, turquoise, and even a mix of white. Blue jade is popular all around the globe and is used for almost anything, including both scenery and fashion. The Nephrite blue is found in many locations such as Big Sur, and blue Jadeite is found in Burma, (also referred to as Myanmar), and Guatemala.

Blue Jade: Meaning & Benefits

Depending on the color, carnelian or chalcedony can be mistaken as jade, and vice versa. There are way too many types of stones that are close to jade, without thorough research and study, it can be difficult to distinguish one from another. Most online sellers do not know the differences themselves, and often list the items under wrong names. That simply adds more confusion. It is said that blue jade has been found in the USA, China, Italy, Myanmar (Burma), Russia and the Middle East. But from the research I've done, blue jade is actually very very rare in China, if not nonexistent. So when it comes to blue jade in China, people may be very well talking about totally different stones, which can be Lapis Lazuli, chalcedony, or agate. In China, blue was considered a symbol of the Heavens. In a literal sense, comparing blue jade and all blue gemstones to the Heavens is an accurate description because humans relate the blue sky to an idea of heaven. Due to the glow of blue jade the stone appears ethereal, which suggests a heavenly quality in the stone. It is a friendly color, and makes the wearer feel “calm and relaxed”. Metaphysically it is recommended for aid in meditation, it symbolizes peace and reflection, it has also been recognized to bring inner serenity and patience. In addition, it is believed that blue jadeite has the following benefits: Longevity & detoxification.

Blue Jade: Where Can It Be Found

Only two locations produce commercial amount of blue jadeite, they are Myanmar (Burma) and Guatemala. A recent discovery in the deep wild mountains of Guatemala has shown that Guatemala has a vast area of blue jade, like the size of Rhode Island; some of the jadeite there is surprisingly higher in quality than Burmese jadeite. This blue jade also appears to be the same jade used by Olmec in Costa Rica.

Blue jadeite jade has Moh's scale of hardness 6.
