Different types of massages can be a wonderful solution to relax your body and mind. Hard work makes us weary and tired. People try different options to relax but a massage is by far one of the best options available. In fact, it should be a part of your wellness routine.

Spas are the favorite destination for people wanting a massage. Top spas offer different types of massages each with different health benefits. Before you get to a spa for a massage, it would be a good idea to learn about the benefits of different types of massages to decide which one would be the best for you.

Deep Tissue massage

Deep tissue massage aims at releasing pain by realigning deeper layers of muscles and fascia (connective tissue). The areas where deep tissue massage is commonly used are Neck, back and shoulders. It is especially helpful to remove stress and sports related muscle tension. It is a more focused type of massage and uses many of the movements used in other body massages like the Swedish massage.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage

Of all the different types of massages, it is the most common and popular massage available in spas. Most newcomers start having their massage services with this one. Swedish massage uses five types of movements, sliding, rhythmic tapping, kneading, cross fiber and shaking. This massage is helpful to reduce pain and joint stiffness as well as to increase the blood flow in your muscles.

Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage

This massage applies heat and pressure to the body using hot smooth stones. When the stones are placed on the recipient’s body, the heat deeply penetrates the muscles and releases the tension. The therapist may also use hot stones to massage certain parts of the body. These types of massages not only relax you but also offer some relief from pain if you had any. People get this for various health conditions like back pain and ache, anxiety and tension, muscle tension etc.

Aroma Therapy Massage

Aroma therapy massage

Aroma therapy is a kind of body massage where concentrated plant oils are mixed with the massage oil or lotion. The therapist uses rubbing and kneading movements to apply the oil mixture to your skin. The oil combination depends on your requirements. For sore muscles problems the therapist would use peppermint and eucalyptus whereas for a relaxing massage lavender or bergamot can be used. These oils are believed to be absorbed by the skin which then affects blood pressure, stress level, breathing and the immune system.

Reflexology

This is a type of massage where pressure is applied to the hand and feet in a special technique without using any kind of oil. It is believed to be helpful to relieve pain, ache and tension from all the parts of the body.

Some top spas in NYC offer fusion massage which is a combination of deep tissue massage, Swedish massage and reflexology. You might as well find some other combinations of different types of massages in spas in New York.

Even people in ancient times knew about the health benefits of different massages. They used it as a healing option. Today, we know more than that, we know what benefits we will gain from what type of massage. However, you cannot expect immediate results from your first visit. Have practical expectations and make it a part of your wellness routine and soon you will begin to feel the relaxing power of massage.
