Cheap Diamond Engagement Rings

Updated on January 2, 2010

Not all diamond engagement rings have to be super expensive. In fact, there are a ton of cheap affordable diamond ring options. You can even find a cheap diamond engagement ring for under $500, so no matter what your budget there is still something out there for you!

Cheap Diamonds Drive Cost Down

Simply because you don't have a lot of money to spend on a diamond ring doesn't mean you will be stuck with a bland, foggy or discolored diamond. In all honesty, diamonds that don't receive high marks of quality often look just as nice as impeccable diamonds.

In case you haven't done your research on the four c's of diamonds (the four categories of classification for diamonds), here are a couple places to start:

Diamond clarity, diamond colors, diamond cuts, diamond weights -- diamond grades for the diamond buyer.

Diamond Quality: Information about the 4 C's including a step-by-step decision guide that helps you make the crucial decisions in minutes.

Read up on these two resources if you don't already know about clarity, cut, color and carat weight.

Diamonds- How Low can the Quality Go?

Diamonds with a light yellow tint are clearly noticeable. However, diamonds with a color quality of "M" or higher on the color chart might not even be noticeable unless you have a microscope Similarly, diamonds with a clarity of "SI2" or better are also not easy to notice.

So if you and your fiancee can't notice it, does it really matter? That's a question you will have to answer for yourself, but if you really want to get a cheap diamond engagement ring, some imperfections in the diamond are inevitable.

If imperfections are something you don't want to live with, you can look to spend more money and might want to check out standard diamond engagement rings or other affordable engagement rings.

Once you know what type of budget you've got and what type of engagement ring you want to buy, you're ready to start planning the romantic proposal! Good luck!

@Berney75: keeping your money into those attributes that we can see, i.e. size and cut can drive up the cost of the diamond. The clarity also can be decreased slightly but not so that the inclusions are visible to the naked eye.

I was browsing the other day and I found the following guide that gives you more insights on diamond criteria that helps you make a smart buying decision: http://www.diamondsinafrica.com/how-to-buy-a-diamo...

I have a little question, can you tell me which one of the 4 c's can drive up the cost the most ? Or is it rather a combination of all 4 of them ?
