Estée Lauder Perfumes

Updated on November 22, 2011

Estée Lauder has been around for a long time - in fact it has been nearly 70 years since Josephine Esther Mentzer, aka, Estée Lauder, founded the company in 1946. In that time Lauder managed to build he empire into one of the most successful and trusted brands in the industry, synonymous with taste and sophistication and catering to a demographic that is not adverse to spending a little extra for quality.

Estee Lauder succeeded by concentrating primarily on two things - the needs and wants of women and providing quality products to meet those needs. The gorgeous signature blue packing didn't hurt either. Lauder knew her marketing. A big part of the company success story is the Estée Lauder perfume line, which was developed over several decades and is now a fixture in many women's lives.

Beautiful

A woman's perfume tells more about her than her handwriting. ~ Christian Dior

If Dior is right, then a woman must choose her scent carefully. Perfume is indeed a woman's signature...it's the waft of her essence that trails behind her and leaves its mark on the things she has caressed.

All women have their personal favourite fragance and if you are an Estée Lauder fan, perhaps this is yours. Beautiful was launched in 1985 and has a rich, warm, luxurious scent, stronger than some of the other Lauder perfumes.

Sensuous

A women who doesn't wear perfume has no future. ~ Coco Chanel

Well I don't know about that but certainly a woman who doesn't wear perfume is missing out on one of life's great, sensual pleasures. It's no secret that smell is the most evocative of the senses, evoking romantic recollections, thoughts and the reawakening of desires.

Sensuous is a very feminine fragrance, suggestive of warm, tropical nights through its exotic floral notes of Amber, Magnolia, Ylang, Jasmine and Mandarin.

This is a seductive, womanly perfume that makes an impression - like the women who wear it, it wont be ignored.

Pleasures

Sometimes one finds an old bottle which remembers....Whence rushes full of life a returning soul..~ Baudelaire

As the name implies, Estee Lauder Pleasures is an uplifting fragrance that feels good to handle and apply - from the sweet pink packaging to the understated glass bottle, devoid of the hackneyed 'celebrity name' that cheapens so many perfumes. Described as the 'fragrance of a thousand flowers', Pleasures has a subtle, soft scent that is not too overwhelming.

White Linen

A perfume is like a piece of clothing, a message, a way of presenting oneself ... a costume ... that differs according to the woman who wears it.~ Paloma Picasso

Clean, crisp and as fresh as as newly laundered sheets, White Linen was created in 1978 and extracts its freshness from the delicate floral scents of jasmine, rose, berry, moss and amber.

It reminds me of sitting on cane chairs, sipping gin slings amid palm trees on summer evenings, though of course, to another, it may signify something else entirely.

Cinnabar

I know a fragrance will be a success when a man falls in love with a woman who is wearing it. ~Jean-Paul Guerlain

Of all the Estée Lauder fragrances Cinnabar is the spiciest and this writer's personal favourite. It has a very distinctive, memorable fragrance, which, when not overused, is just gorgeous.

A heady bend of incense, flowers, spice and amber, Cinnabar conjures a bustling marketplace in an ancient street, Arabian nights...and passion.
