Fall 2009 Celebrity Perfume Gossip

Updated on February 20, 2012

What do you think of celebrity perfumes? If a celebrity perfume makes you giggle, it is because the juice is terrible or because of the drama that surrounds the celebrity and their perfume? Some celebrity perfumes are actually decent and downright respectable. (Like Sean John Unforgivable or Sarah Jessice Parker Lovely.) Some celebrity perfumes are, well... not. (But we'll let those go unnamed for now.) But what's more exciting than the "love it or leave it" dynamics surrounding celebrity perfumes? Why, all the gossip that leads up to the release of a celebrity perfume, of course. For your reading pleasure, here are some recent tidbits in celebrity perfume drama… ahem, news.

Which girl gets the boot?

Beyonce, after two successful years on the campaign of Emporio Armani Diamonds, was retired and replaced by Megan Fox. Though no details of the new campaign have been released, everyone surely looks forward to the visuals as well as the outrageous quotes that will be selected from future press conferences. You know, since we all know how well-presented and tactful Megan can be. Dropping an extremely professional and personable celebrity for an extremely attractive celebrity with a loud-mouth might unleash some tabloid-worthy choas in the perfume world. Be on the lookout!

Dolce & Gabanna also recently performed their own celebrity swap. With three years of posing for Dolce & Gabbana The One added to her laurels, Giselle Bundchen was booted for Scarlett Johansson. After professing for years that Giselle is the one who every woman desires to emulate, Dolce & Gabanna scratched that memo and did a complete three-sixty. Apparently Scarlett now offers the perfect image to which every woman aspires. Who's the one for you?

Also this fall, Uma Thurman is posing for Givenchy Ange ou Demon, Demi Moore for Helena Rubenstien Wanted, and Kate Moss for Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne.

Another season, another socialite perfume

Have you heard enough about Paris Hilton and her new perfumes? With a Paris Hilton perfume being launched every second month (or so it seems), chances are your answer is yes. As if there wasn't enough babbling on the dabblings of socialites, Kim Kardashian adds fuel to that gossip After a year of perfume rumors, Kim was recently picked up to craft a perfume. In 2008, the professional party-girl said she was working with star perfumer Caroline Sabas, who has created many a masterpiece in the celebrity perfume arena. Turns out, nothing came of these rumored collaborations. Observing the hesitation, someone finally steps in to cash in on Kim's star-power. Kim is now signed to create and market a perfume created by Lighthouse Beauty, the company that manufactures 50 Cent’s gear.

Old news is smelly news

In other celebrity perfume news, Justin Timberlake recently admitted, “Sometimes to be funky, you gotta smell funky.” So we've already heard him confess that he is not a cologne wearer. We've also already heard Givenchy declare that they created Play to appeal to his anti-cologne sensibilities. And finally we've also heard Justin profess that he's changed, he actually likes Givenchy Play and he even wears it sometimes. But, wait, hold the phone! Did anyone hear Justin say that he actually enjoys human stink? Well, there you have it. It's out. Justin enjoys the smell of… himself. I bet Givenchy would have hesitated to reel in Justin as the face of Play had they known his tendency to announce his not-so-hygenic preferences.

Perfume drama in the courtroom

In another celebrity perfume scandal, Stella McCartney was recently taken to court over a trademark infringement claim made by Nude Brands Ltd., which is owned by the wife of Bono from U2. Stella's newest perfume called StellaNUDE came under fire when Nude Brands claimed the right to the capitalized word "NUDE" in the names of all bath and beauty products. After a few heated days in court, with millions of production and marketing dollars at stake, the court ruled in Stella's favor and StellaNUDE will hit the markets soon.
