Every beauty expert out there will tell you that exfoliation is one of the most important things you can do for your skin, and it has numerous beauty benefits. Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells and this can help minimize wrinkles and will even help combat skin problems like eczema, psoriasis and acne. Exfoliating skin products can quite easily be found in your local supermarket or even online, but you’re sure to pay for the convenience and the brand name. It’s really easy to make facial scrubs at home using all-natural and fresh ingredients. You’ll be cutting out all the chemicals and preservatives, and your skin will still get the exfoliation it needs to be as healthy as ever.

Ingredients to Use

There are so many ingredients you could use to make a facial scrub at home that the list is almost endless. You really need only two ingredients and that’s a lubricant and an exfoliant. Homemade scrubs usually rely on mechanical exfoliants, so you’ll need to use something that has a rough texture.

Ground coffee, sugar, salt, oatmeal and even maize meal can be used as mechanical exfoliating agents, and these ingredients are likely already in your kitchen cupboard. Lubricants could be an oil such as olive oil, or even ordinary sunflower oil. If you have problem skin, you might want to opt for something like jojoba oil because it’s non comedogenic and helps bring impurities to the surface of the skin. Other alternatives include yoghurt or buttermilk. The lactic acid in these ingredients will help to exfoliate the skin as well.

Instructions

Making the scrub is really as easy as mixing two ingredients together and stirring them. Once that’s done you can apply the scrub to your skin and gently massage it to get the exfoliation going. Rinse it off with cool water and follow with a moisturizer of your choice.

Homemade facial scrubs can be made with almost any ingredients you have in the home, and are much cheaper than store-bought products. You’ll also have the peace of mind knowing that there are no chemicals or potentially irritating ingredients in there and that it’s 100% fresh. Always make the scrub just before you use it to get the best results possible. It’s also a great way to prepare your skin for a homemade facial mask and will help your skin drink in all the moisturizing benefits of whichever product you apply afterwards.
