Girls With Tattoos

Updated on March 7, 2010

Tattoos today are extremely popular and becoming increasingly so in all cultures as new inks, techniques and technology arrives.

It wasn't always so as back in the early days Leviticus in the old testament stated "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD" so, in theory it is against Christian teaching to have a tattoo. One of the missing commandments?

There are two types of invisible tattoo. One is quite ancient and is carried out by monks in some temples in Thailand. These are the 'Sak Yant' tattoos and done to a traditional Buddhist design and are done with 'holy water' or oils which have been blessed by monks. These are tattoos which will give magical powers to the wearer and are not a 'show off' feature as no-one else can see or know that they have been done. If you think about it this is the tattoo for the really cool person.

The latest tattoo to be gaining popularity are those done with phosphor inks. These will glow in the dark under black light. Quite the 'in' thing at the disco....and your mother will never know. Some people will go one better and combine traditional tattoo inks with phosphor which means that the tattoo will glow under ultra violet light.

Personally I have no tattoos and have no plan or desire to ever have one done. I believe that for the most part an unnatractive feature on most people and have great difficulty understanding why anyone would want to have one done. I can however appreciate a tattoo as a work of art and some of these are exceptional.

I have dated around a dozen women who had tattoos and two I specifically dated because they had them. I wanted to see where they went.

You have a good eye for good work, Peter. I especially liked the first tattoo for the intricacy and imagery. Thanks!

Thanks Ralph - You would be surprised at the number of tattoos done in arpits and on the inners side of the lower lip. No sun there at all.

I read that former Sec. Labor, Treasury and State George Shultz had a Princeton tiger tattooed on his butt when he was in the Marines. The problem is that in most mainstream occupatons it's hard to be hired with a bunch of visible tattoos.

True enough Ralph - definite no tattoo area on the body. Anywhere on the head and arms below the elbows. Everywhere else can be hidden unless you ate a lifeguard.

The artwork is great - but I will never become a fan of tattoos as well as piercings...I am too old fashioned, I guess

( too old as well )

Thanks Ralf - I feel much the same as you. I sometimes wonder though that if I was forty years younger if I would have got myself a tattoo.

Interesting Hub with a lot of great pics of some pretty intricate work. Kind of reminds me of the 'Suicide Girls' and their approach to the lifestyle.

Interesting point you made: 'Thou shall not tattoo' -Eleventh Commandment?

I don't understand why the temporary tattoos haven't caught on. I went to a fair once and got a very cool temp dragon on my forearm. Looked like the real thing and lasted a week. I would never get a permanent tat.

I think I should do a hub on temp tattoos. Ok, ya talked me into it.
