Head Tattoos

If you're considering getting a head tattoo, we have you covered. We have a variety of great ideas for head tattoo designs and tons of useful information before you get your head tattoo. More then likely, you've already been tattooed. Why? That's just experience. Head tattoos are not a common "first tattoo" choice. Perhaps, you're one of the few that wants to go straight to tattooing your head. It's a free world and your body is the canvas!

Before we jump in, there's a few things that you need to know about head tattoos in general. For starters, the head is one of the most delicate parts of your body when it comes to tattooing. The skin on the head is thin and it doesn't take much to pressure from the gun to feel it. Are head tattoos painful? Yes, they're painful. Will a head tattoo cause me to twitch? More then likely, you will. In fact, if you're sensitive, you may want to consider getting tattooed somewhere else. Are you willing to sit through 6 hours of constant pain? You be the judge on that one.

Just like other areas on the body, the head has advantages and disadvantages when tattooing is concerned. No matter what, we have to cut your hair. Obvious, right? Most tattoo artist are precise, so they won't take off more then they need. This is not a big issue for men, but it can be for women. In the end, it's something you must think about. Head tattoo designs can be covered up by a hat or cap for the most part. However, you may only be able to cover up a portion of the design. If you care how others portray you, this may be an issue. If this is your 10th tattoo, who cares, hey?

Another issue when it comes to head tattoo designs is the fact that you're going to constantly cut or shave your hair. There's no way around it. If you want your tattoo to be seen, your hair will need cut. This can also be a good thing as hair will eventually hide your head tattoo, just in case it was the worse mistake you've ever made. Then again, if your aging, your head tattoo can make a comeback.

In all seriousness, you have to consider all of these. Head tattoo or not, any tattoo is a big decision. You're going to wear this for the rest of your life. You want to make sure that you choose a tattoo design that your sure to love. This is why we're going to give you dozens of great ideas for your head tattoo. Just make sure that you weigh out all your options before getting inked. If this is what you really want, go for it! If you have one second thought, weight it out and make sure this is the tattoo you need. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but you know who you are. Make sure this is absolutely what you want.

Teaches, some of them can be for sure. The head is one of the hardest areas to tattoo. Think about it if you will, the skull is circular. If you're working on a head tattoo that covers from ear to ear, it can be hard to create great line work. It's a sensitive area, clients often twitch, making line work that much harder. A great head tattoo design is the mark of a great tattooist.

I think some of these are a bit scary, but still - they are interesting.

@Rosemay, always great to hear from you. LOL Head tattoos are the type of tattoo that you either like or hate. Head tattoo designs are not for everyone. In most cases, men and women that get head tattoos already have numerous tattoo designs.

@Kim, thanks for dropping by. I do think there's a desire for head tattoos because you don't always see them, their not that common. They certainly eye catchers and bring attention. Personally, I wouldn't get a head tattoo. Behind the ears, I might consider that, but not the large portion of the head.

@Bill, appreciate the comment. Same here, head tattoos are a little extreme for me. I'm the type that has a deep appreciation for body art. Even so, this is one tattoo that I wouldn't seek.

@MarleneB, thanks for stopping by. LOL A few of these head tattoo designs are very graphic and detailed, kudos to the artist for sure. Same here, I love art and creativity, both elements of tattooing. Thanks for sharing MarleneB!

@Genna, thanks so much. I love hearing others talk about the art. Many people don't see tattoo artist as "artist," but they should. Most tattoo artist can paint, you have to be able to draw. Their true artist and I love bringing that awareness to others.

Extraordinary, Ricky. I would not consider having one, but I must say that the artwork is just phenomenal. Voted Up +. :-)

Some of these tattoos look a little scary! I'm probably the only person in my town without a tattoo (well, not counting my husband). While I would never consider getting a tattoo, I still think tattoos are fascinating. And, since my husband saw Ceelo Green with a head tattoo (henna), he's now considering getting a tattoo.

I love how you began this hub: "If you're considering getting a head tattoo, we have you covered." SMILES! I think must live a pretty sheltered life for I know very few people with any kind of tattoo, and I am pretty sure I do not know any with a head tattoo. Of course, if they have let their hair grow out, then I guess I would not know. I believe that is what makes this kind of tattoo desirable. One can always grow out his/her hair. Except there is the pain issue. Another very cool hub and V+ all the way.

      Best to you my friend,

Oh no sorry Ricky these are not to my taste and it's not as if they are going to the sunburn. Lol

But a well written hub all the same.
