Hot Hair Tips for 2009

Updated on April 4, 2014

Short Cuts To Aim For

First, and foremost, you must decide if you have the right shape face for a chop-job. To determine this, do you have a gorgeous face, stunning eyes, and beautiful lips? How about a firm chin, or an unlined neck? If so, a crop will attract immediate attention to your face.

If you have a double chin, or any lines you are trying to hide, then a crop might not be the best option, unless your stylist can modify the look by leaving extra length and fullness on the sides or building height along the crown.

Oval shapes look good in just about any style, and in most cases, would adopt well to a crop.

Square faces, be prepared to go with longer styles that flatter your jawline. Super short cuts enhance jaw line features.

Round faces may be able to pull off a crop, if it's got height on the crown, and fullness on the sides for round cheeks.

Cropped styles also magnify prominent chins that are often found on heart shaped, triangular, or inverted pears.

Celebrity Cuts

Here, I have presented four of my favorite celebrity crops:

The first, Halle Berry, (my first choice), is wearing the "chop of all chops"... Rich chocolate-brown tresses, with longer pieces sweeping across her forehead, and lightly flicked along the sides... Using the correct styling products is a must. To get Halle's style, you would need some volume enhancing mousse to give a lift on top of the crown, and some pomade, or wax to create the flicks on the sides, and in the bangs...

Next, I have beautiful Charlize Theron... (She sort of resembles Nicole Kidman here in this photo.) She has a super-short crop, which flatters her features. To get her hair, use a small dab of wax, softened by rubbing between your hands, and liberally apply from half an inch from the roots down to the ends. Finish with a light mist of shine enhancing hairspray, or a tiny bit of shine serum.

Also here, I have Magical Alyssa Milano... (who I named my daughter after!) Her super-short crop can be done in many ways. Here, she has a simple, yet attractive look, not much to it, besides a little hairspray! You could also dress it up with tiny hair clips, or small flowers tucked behind your ear!

Sharon Stone- This look is called "bed-head"... Surprisingly enough, it takes a bit longer than just getting out of bed! The teased, and flicked style is absolutely sexy! Why make a big fuss when your already beautiful? This style just proves it... Mess it up and spray- It's that easy!

Some Other Super-Short Cuts

10 Others I Especially Liked

Here are 10 others I especially enjoyed, with a brief styling description to tell you step-by-step How to get that style!

This style, similar to Halle Berry's hair (above) is not only super short, but super sexy! You can do anything with this style, and it will look great! How to get this style: Start off by applying a touch of texturizer, or liquid gel to your hair before blow-drying. Blow dry hair on the crown backwards, and to one side. Then, with a bit of wax, rubbed between your hands, apply evenly through your hair, using your fingers, pull bangs down into spikes. Spray lightly with a light-hold hairspray, and WA-LAH! Your finished!

This next crop is cut longer around the face, and at the crown, but shorter in the back. This sexy look is great for almost any shape of face, as it is texturized to suit the persons features. How to get this style: Apply some volume-enhancing mousse before blow-drying. Blow dry forward, and to one side, using a large, or medium round brush. Spray lightly with hairspray. Easy, huh?

WOW! This style is ROCKIN! And probobly the most simple to achieve! How to get this style: EASY! Just apply some gel, spike it up, and spray! If your hair is a touch longer, after spraying, hold hair up with fingers, and use blow dryer to instantly freeze your hair into place!

Ah, the sophisticated, yet hip look! Easy, and stress-free styling for the "on-the-go-woman"! I love this look. How to get this style: Simple as simple gets! Honestly, do nothing, if you so choose... If your into a change, spike it up using some pomade to twist it, then spray... All done!

Alright, how innocent is this? Isn't she cute? And I bet her hair is the least of her worries! Short, and sweet, that's what I call it! How to get this style: Apply some volume-enhancing mousse, blow dry top sideways, and sides can be rubbed backwards, or frontwards with a touch of softened wax. Spray with hairspray, and there ya go, all finished!

Hmmm... This style makes me wonder... Is she an angel, or a devil? HA! That's for her to know, and you to MAYBE find out! How to get this style: Before blow drying, add some pomade, or hair wax. Twist ends with your fingers, pulling hair up, and in the direction you want it to go in. Spray with hairspray, and head for the door!

Yeah! I like this one! The stylist added some lighter tips to the bottoms of this girls hair... I absolutely love this style! It says "I'm my own person, DAMMIT!" Pulled forward, or not, this style makes a statement! How to get this style: Add some volume-enhancing mousse, blow dry sides and front forward, and the top and back backwards. Spray, and your done!

This short "bob" style is super sweet! You can be innocent-looking, or super-duper-sexy! She has highlights added to the front, around her face, and whisps of highlights throughout her hair, which gives the style personality. How to get this style: Add a touch of shine serum to the palms of your hands and rub together for a moment, then distribute evenly through hair, from about a half an inch from roots, to the ends. Blow dry front and around face down with a large round brush, and the tips of the hair from the sides, back, curl frontwards with same round brush. Spray lightly with shine enhancing spray, and your done.

Super sexy, and super easy! This hair-doo screams "LOOK AT ME! I'M BEAUTIFUL!" Looks good on almost anyone! How to get this style: Use some mousse on the crown of your head, blow dry using a large round brush, concentrating mainly on the back of the crown. For the front, smooth some pomade to your hanging strands, pull down, and forward, and slightly to one side, and down around your face. Spray with hairspray, and your finished!

This next pic shows three different styles you can create with a super-short-textured-crop. The larger pic, hair slicked back with a shine-spray. The two smaller pics show different angles to her hair when she spiked it all up using volumizing mousse, wax, and shine mist to finish.

There, I hope my Hot Hair Tips helped someone out... Whether you be thinking of chopping it all off, or if you already have, and want to know what to do with it, I've been there, and I must say, I loved my super-short-crop. I actually had my hair exactly like Halle Berry's (on this page), for about three years. I had many, many compliments on it, and one of these days, I'll probobly do it again! For now, good luck with your new 'doo', (or good luck with your decision to get the new 'doo'!)
