How to Find a Wedding Dress
The Perfect Wedding Dress
Catalogues, bridal stores and what is imprinted in your mind as the ideal wedding dress can be very different and extremely hard to find.
For many women the perfect dress has been imprinted in their minds since childhood and to get the image out to a designer can be a challenge.
Catalogues, bridal stores and designers might have a close enough copy but it is not what you had in mind and for many brides the pressure of running out of time can lead them to take the wrong dress and leave them unhappy for the big day.
Other women go for styles that will compliment their figures and for many the wedding dress is not the biggest issue for their happy day, without concerns of having seen the dress somewhere else before.
Getting your perfect wedding dress is not as difficult as you may think and if you do have an idea of what you want imprinted in your mind, there is a way to for you to get it.
Your wedding is your special day and if you have an idea of what you want, then don't just settle for anything.
The first step is to find a dress that is similar to the one that you have in mind is to sketch it. If you can't draw to save your life then look through catalogues and find one that is similar so that those helping you will have a rough idea of what they need to do to get your perfect dress.
Explaining what you would like is a challenge when it comes to designers as they might hear your idea in a different way, so don't just take their word for it, if they tell you that they know what you want, get them to sketch it for you and take it from there.
Have patience because it might take a while for someone to understand exactly what it is that you are looking for.
The perfect wedding dress for you
Your wedding dress and planning
Before you choose a dress you need to know that there will be a lot of activity at your wedding and comfort is important.
If you want to have a dress that has a 7ft train or you would like it to flair out then you need to understand that it will be difficult to dance, sit or move easily.
When selecting this type of dress you need to ensure that the train and flair can be removed so that you can move around easily.
Walking down the aisle is the easy part and if you cannot move or feel comfortable in your dress, then it will be a long and awkward day for you.
Once you are at the reception and all the formalities, including the first dance has been done, you can remove all the awkward items in order to relax, feel comfortable and enjoy your wedding, whilst still looking good.
Avoid uncomfortable shoes because you will be on your feet a lot and if you are in pain, you will not be able to soak in the splendour of the day.
It also does not help to stuff yourself into a dress that's sizes too small for you as this will not make you look slim but it will make you look out of place.
Your dress should be ordered 6 months before the wedding and you can allow for an inch to be altered should you pick up or lose weight but the ideal thing to do is to lose your weight by the time you are ready to place the order for your dress and then just maintain that weight for 6 months.
This will avoid panic and last minute changes that could alter the style of your dress.
Be realistic and don't order a dress thinking that you will be 3 sizes down because you don't need to have added pressure for the day.
If you want a short dress than ensure that it is one that you can sit down in and know that everyone will be taking photo's when you least expect it and this means that you will have to be alert all day, to avoid "flashing" your guest and having photographic proof that will be spoken about more than the actual wedding.
Strapless bridal wear
Cleavage and off the shoulder dresses
Your perfect dress might be one that requires perfect breasts that don't move out of place.
Dresses that show off cleavage need to be correctly made in order to avoid awkward moments. You also need to have the right gear on underneath if you are not one of the lucky few that can go without a bra.
There are undergarments that can be warn to keep everything in place and you can also have the dress made in such a way that it keeps it all in place.
Strapless dresses are also in need of support and this is important for you to feel comfortable. A lining is extremely imperative as white with photography can show every little detail. Ensure that the important parts are lined to avoid "flash photography."
How to find the perfect bridal gown
The image in your head can be very different to what is in the designers mind so trying to sketch it yourself is a good idea.
If you are not "Picasso" then cut out pieces of different dresses from catalogues to create your perfect dress.
Catalogues are a great idea because you are guaranteed to find the one that is perfect for you.
On-line shopping can be a little daring because you might not get the dress in time, if you do not order in advance. You might also need to alter the dress when you finally receive it.
Bridal stores have fitters and some of them have designers that can help you create the gown of your choice. They also understand your needs and will be at hand to change something if you are not happy with it.
Renting a gown is a little dull because it is nice to keep the dress but in all honesty you are only ever going to wear it once and the chances of your daughter wanting to wear it for her wedding, are pretty slim.
If you are going to wear your mother's dress then you need to be able to alter it to suit today's trend or your style as this may differ slightly.... don't feel bad because it is your day and you need to feel special.
Finding the perfect dress means that you need to think of comfort, style that suits you and something that you will feel confident in.
The dress must accentuate your assets as well as allow you the space to move around.
Wearing a "fairytale" gown is possible as long as you can detach some of the gown to allow you to be able to sit or dance because nobody ever showed how the princess was able to sit in her gown because she couldn't.
