Coontails

Coontails are a super fun hairstyle to try. I just love the stripey look! However it isn't a look that I could just sport anywhere I go like work for example. Not to mention the permanent damage hair dye causes. This does not keep me from wearing this hairstyle though. You can make dye your own clip in hair extensions. This way you don't damage your hair, You can put them in and take them out whenever you want and you make lots of different color combinations!

The hair extensions

First thing you will be needing is hair extensions. Blonde is the very best color or white if you can find that color. This is so you can easily dye it and no matter what colors you are using they show up bright and vibrant. You have a few different options. I like to buy the super inexpensive dollar store extensions since I dye them and can't really tell the difference anyways. You can also buy them at a beauty supply store or on the internet. I like to pick out the longest extensions available that way I can cut the hair to the length I want later.

The hair dye

Pick out the colors you want the sky is the limit. I like to pick only two for each extension and keep the more traditional coontail look. I like the black and blonde but colors like blue and pink are also really fun especially when you pair them with a matching outfit. Whatever colors you pick make sure that the dye is permanent just in case they get wet or something like that. Once you pick out the dye you need a paint brush to apply it. Paint the colors on in stripes. Using a small paint brush gives you more control so the stripes don't get mixed together. Make sure that have the extensions on a flat surface this keeps the colors from running together. Leave the dye in for the recommended amount of time before rinsing. Then let them air dry and now they will have a beautiful coontail design.

Attaching a hair clip

The kind of hair clip you use is up to you entirely. I prefer using the cheap snap in clips. You can but clips made especially for extensions in beauty supply stores and online. Some extensions even come with these. What I do with the snap in clips is to open them up and super glue the extensions to the bottom piece. I let the glue set and that is pretty much it. Now you can snap in the hair extensions whenever you like
