Updated on November 6, 2010

Hair Removal

Hair removal. The art of shaving body-hair. There's many different ways to do it, from waxing to shaving, from electrolysis to threading ... the list isn't endless but it is extensive. Here you'll find the three most popular methods.

Women want to know the best methods for removing hair around the bikini line, underarm and legs. For men, it's become about more than just facial hair. These days they want to know about chest hair removal, back hair removal and even from around the genital area.

What are the different hair removing methods? Is one shaving method better than another? This article will cover the basics relating to the different techiniques available - giving you the choice to make an informed decision based upon relelvant information.

Unwanted Hair Removal

Shaving and waxing can be done in the convenience of your own home - quickly, efficiently and relatively cheaply.

Semi Permanent Hair Removal

This is as it suggests – any method of hair removal that doesn’t eradicate hair permanently. The most common techniques are: waxing, threading, shaving, depilation and hair removal creams.

Semi-permanent methods are more commonly used simply because they are cheaper, accessible and convenient. For example, most of us would deal with bothersome body hair during a 15 minute trip to the bathroom. Permanent hair removal calls for a lot more investment, in terms of money and time.

Body Waxing

Hair waxing - can be used as a hair removal method almsot anywhere on the body.

Waxing

This method involves the use of warm wax, spread sparingly onto the area from which you want to remove body hair. Before the wax cools a thin cloth strip is pressed onto the wax then quickly pulled off in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

This method can be done either at home or in a local beauty salon. Waxing can also be used pretty much everywhere on the body. Bikini waxing is popular, as is leg and underarm waxing.

Many also use it as the preferred method for sculpting eyebrows and top lip hair removal.

Eyebrow Threading

A great hair removal method if you have snesitive skin.

Threading

Threading is actually similar to using tweezers. A thin strand of twisted cotton is rotated across unwanted body hair. The result is hair is plucked out, though where it differs from tweezing is the fact that it removes several hairs at a time. This method is generally used for removing facial hair.

It's an ancient hair removal practice and originated in Persia. However, it's gaining popularity in the Western World - though it remains most commonly used in Arab countries.

It's also a method that is great for those that have sensitive skin conditions as it doesn't remove any skin layers.

Shaving Creams

For some, shaving creams are the method of choice. This is the least painful way of hair removal and if anything - lacks the need to shave anything. Most of the hair removal creams are inexpensive and suitable for most skin types and it's highly likely that most women have used one at some time or other.

This is a great way to remove unwanted body hair for anyone that wants both an inexpensive option and one that's also pain free. Most brands are designed around showering or at least before or after bathing, making the entire experience as simple as possible.

Generally, a good quality cream will require a once a week (or so) use in order to get rid of unwanted body hair - and keep it away.
