Lavender Oil and How It Can Help You

Updated on February 8, 2014

Top 10 Uses:

When you look up Essential Oils, Lavender oil is surely going to be one of the first that pops up. That is why I am using Lavender as the first of many Essential Oil articles to come. I am not going to dive into the Chemistry aspect of Lavender simply because we all know what Lavender is. Its the beautiful purple puff of a flower with a wonderful fragrance. Well, come to find out, that beautiful flower and fragrance can also help you treat many of life's common problems. That's what this article is all about, to teach you in a fast, no rambling on about pointless facts, kind of way. So here we go:

How Lavender can help you

1. Aching Muscles: add a few drops of Lavender into a hot bath, soaking the aching muscles for at least 15 minutes. You will feel yourself and your muscles relaxing almost instantly.

2. Lavender is known for killing bacteria and fungus, including things such as athletes foot, scabies and infections. Use a cotton ball to rub onto affected areas.

3. Ear Aches: Rub onto outer ear and behind ear, for children mix with olive oil and do the same.

4: Wrinkles and Acne: use a non-fragrance, hypoallergenic lotion and add a few drops of lavender oil. For more serious spots of acne, use plain Lavender oil, letting it sit before washing off and applying the lotion mixture.

5: Minor cuts and burns: using a cotton ball, apply a few drops and rub onto cuts and burns for pain relief and quicker healing, leaving no scars.

6: Bug bites and bug repellent: Mosquitoes, flies and moths really dislike the scent of Lavender, leaving Lavender around the house on a dish or cotton balls, will repel these bugs, leaving you with a sense of peace and a wonderful smelling house. When applying lavender onto your skin, it works the same. If you have a bug bite, rubbing Lavender onto the bites will reduce the itching and help the bites heal faster.

7: Menstrual Cramps: Rubbing a few drops onto your lower back and abdomen will relieve you of the wretched pain each month.

8: Sunburns: putting a few drops of Lavender, peppermint oil and jojoba oil into a semi-cool bath will help relieve the pain, and start the healing process faster. Apply a Lavender mist to skin a few times a day will keep your skin feeling cool.

9: Stress and Anxiety: Rubbing Lavender onto your temples, forehead and the base of your neck will help calm your nerves, working like arompatherapy, you will notice yourself being more relaxed.

10: Insomnia: The bottoms of your feet are porous, rubbing a few drops into the arch of your foot will send the Lavender flowing to your bloodstream working as muscles relaxer and/or Melatonin. Mix that with applying some to your temples and onto your pillow, you will be relaxed and ready for sleep.

There are countless other ways to use Lavender, but these ten are my favorite, and what I find to be the most commonly helpful ways to use this particular oil. Hope this helps as a all natural fix to most problems.
