Lingerie Mysteries | Black Stockings For Men and Women

Updated on October 13, 2009

A few weeks ago, Hub Pages, yes the Hub Pages asked this question ' Black Stockings'. Due to the fact that it was not originally phrased in traditional question format, I have re-interpreted it for the benefit of my dear readers.

Therefore, the question becomes:

"Black stockings?"

Clearly Hub Pages, like so many other entities in the world, is mystified by the very existence of black stockings, and I understand. Black stockings can be confusing items of lingerie indeed, but with over 150 hubs on lingerie under my belt, I feel qualified to write on this topic in what I hope will be an illuminating fashion.

The Nature Of The Sheer Black Stocking

Black stockings are typically made of nylon, a substance which is also used in fishing nets, parachutes and panties. The nylon knit of stockings creates one of two effects, sheer or opaque. Sheer black stockings are clearly black to onlookers, however the skin underneath is still visible through the myriad of tiny holes which have been craftily left there by the manufacturers.

The Secrets Of The Opaque Black Stocking

Opaque black stockings on the other hand, cover the leg entirely. Not a skerrick of human flesh is visible to the human eye, (though it it is highly visible through an electron microscope.) Opaque black stockings are warmer than their flirty sheer cousins, though they do get asked to dance less.

To Seam, or Not To Seam?

Black stockings may be seamless, or they may be seamed. Seamed stockings usually involve a thin seam running up the back of the stocking, drawing the eyes of passers by as the wearer moves throughout the world. Current fashion trends have seen the seam move towards the front of the stocking, which is just silly and blasphemous.

Stay Up Black Stockings

Black stockings may be stay up, meaning that they will cling to the wearer's thigh with sufficient force to overcome gravity. This usually involves an elastic or silicone band in the top of the stockings.

Black Stockings and Garters

If a black stocking is not of the stay up variety, you will need to harness it with suspenders attached to a garter belt. The process of donning such equipment is a little more arduos, but most lovers of lingerie agree that it looks better than having stockings weirdly defying gravity about your thighs.

I hope this article has explained the phenomenon and nature of black stockings sufficiently. Suffice to say, they can be and indeed are worn by both men and women who want their legs to look good and feel warm. Some also find the feel of black nylon stockings to be not entirely unpleasant (or addictively pleasurable, as the case may be.)

Stay tuned for more answers to questions that were never really questions anyway..
