Make Your Own Make-Up..Simple Homemade Recipes!

Updated on September 8, 2009

You Glow Girl !

Every Woman wants to look beautiful and since ages women have invented various things to make herself look beautiful. In olden days women used to use blueberries, cornflour, roses and lot of other stuff to make tints and colors to give their complexion a rosy color or blue tint to their eyelids and stuff like that! Luckily we have a wide variety of cosmetics available in the market today to choose from or is it really fortunate that we have that choice? Women spend a lot of money on beauty products and beauty services..is it worth it? How many times it has happened that we are let down by a certain product that failed to deliver what it claimed? Several dollars later, We notice there are no changes to write home about. To begin with expensive doesnt always mean good or beneficial for our skin. Some of the stuff that goes into making of these so called urban cosmetics is shocking! We all want to enhance our beauty and some of us are willing to go to painstaking levels to achieve it.

Modern cosmetics claim to do wonders for us ..But do they really ?

Why not try something at home that is truly herbal and safe instead of heading to pick up that new cosmetic on the market, which is exorbitantly priced! Well one may wonder why do we need to make our own makeup when we have evrything readily available in the market with a wide variety to choose from? The answer is simple! The added chemicals can be toxic sometimes and do you more harm than good in the long run.The beauty of natural homemade make up is that you can even sleep leaving them on as it will not harm your skin but its always better to cleanse and tone your skin before you hit the sack.

This DIY stuff is what you can easily find in your kitchen, very simple stuff and easy to make ..well most of them. You can add a little bit of essential oils for fragrance. Now all you need is a tad of patience and free time (of course the ingredients too :) You can make lipsticks, kohl, blushers, lip and cheek stain, hair gel, deodorants, foundations, lip gloss and hair sprays. Its fun to do and u can be 100% positive that its herbal !

>Dry beetroots and dry grind them to make a powder, use it as a blush on.

>Beetroot juice can be applied to the eyelids, cheeks and lips as a tint. If you want a shiny, glowing look add a bit of glycerin.

>Mix saffron and beetroot juice to get a burnt orange, summery shade, use same as above.

>Sieve fuller's earth powder through a soft cloth 2 or 3 times, add rose water and glycerin to make a foundation.

>Mix a little bit of honey and vitamin e oil to make lip gloss.

>Mix rose water with vit e from a capsule to make make up remover.

>Mix sesame oil with honey and glycerin to make  hair gel which provides nourishment as well as a good hold to your hair.

>Mix rose water, camphor and essential oils of your choice to make body deodorant. You can fill your spray bottle with this.

Now the last on -Kohl, I saved it for the last because it needs to be explained in detail.

You would need olive oil or almond oil, cotton, two stainless steel or earthen bowls( one small, one big), a small glass container.

>Pour olive or almond oil in the small bowl, please do not fill it to the top.

>Take clean cotton and roll it to make a semi thick wick.

>Dip one end in the olive oil bowl and leave some portion of the wick out side.

>Burn the wick and cover it with the big bowl, leave some space to let the air escape.

>Leave it for 2 to 3 hours, be careful to choose a corner for this.

>Lift the bigger bowl (use a towel or thick hand gloves,it will be very hot)

> Scratch the black material with a spoon and collect it in a small glass container.

>Mix a little bit of almond oil and keep it in your refrigerator.

If you find it bothersome and time consuming or if you are pressed for time, you could do this-:

>Take a small bowl, pour some olive/almond oil. Roll a cotton wick, put it in the bowl of oil and burn the other end which is outside the bowl. Collect the soot by holding a spoon above the flame, let the spoon cool down and collect this soot with a toothpick, mix just a teeny weeny bit of oil. Voila ! Your kohl is ready.

You can experiment with a lot of fruit and vegetables but make sure you are not allercic to certain flowers, fruits and vegetables. Other than that there is no way these herbal preparations can harm you!
