You would need olive oil or almond oil, cotton, two stainless steel or earthen bowls( one small, one big), a small glass container.
>Pour olive or almond oil in the small bowl, please do not fill it to the top.
>Take clean cotton and roll it to make a semi thick wick.
>Dip one end in the olive oil bowl and leave some portion of the wick out side.
>Burn the wick and cover it with the big bowl, leave some space to let the air escape.
>Leave it for 2 to 3 hours, be careful to choose a corner for this.
>Lift the bigger bowl (use a towel or thick hand gloves,it will be very hot)
> Scratch the black material with a spoon and collect it in a small glass container.
>Mix a little bit of almond oil and keep it in your refrigerator.
If you find it bothersome and time consuming or if you are pressed for time, you could do this-:
>Take a small bowl, pour some olive/almond oil. Roll a cotton wick, put it in the bowl of oil and burn the other end which is outside the bowl. Collect the soot by holding a spoon above the flame, let the spoon cool down and collect this soot with a toothpick, mix just a teeny weeny bit of oil. Voila ! Your kohl is ready.
