How To Grow Long Thick Hair

I have never been one to jump on the bandwagon and always prided myself on being an individual. Taking the road less traveled is usually my route, which is not always a good thing. I know. Well, one evening during my ritualistic cyber-stalking of long hair care forums, I became intrigued. Women of different ethnicities contemplated buying a product that some claimed gave them up to 3 inches of hair growth in a month. Knowing human hair usually grows 0.5 an inch a month, I initially doubted the possibility. The funny thing about this product is it merchandised as an equine (horse) hair strengthener. HORSEHAIR PRODUCTS?! You've gotta me kidding me, right?!

Well, being on my healthy hair journey and longing for waist length hair, I began reading reviews of this product. Many great reviews exist on line but they were mostly given after a month of use. So I decided to make a trip to my local tack shop and invest in a bottle. Time for a little experiment.

After 3 months of consistent use here's my review. First of all, this product was quite a lofty price for me since I usually stick to grocery store hair care brands, around $32. It smells great kind of like pina colada. Here's how I used it.

  • Deep Condition: Once a week I combined a quarter size amount with some organic coconut oil and applied directly to my scalp overnight as a deep conditioner. After the first week I noticed small white pustules on my scalp so I changed the ratio of product and used more coconut oil to moisturize my scalp.
  • Counteract Shedding: After a few days, I noticed an increase in shedding. I decided to take a garlic supplement to counteract this shedding. Another option would be to rinse hair after washing with black tea steeped in water.
  • Trim hair: After a month's use I was shocked to see about an inch of new hair growth but the growth was very uneven. I trimmed my hair about 0.5 an inch and almost tossed my bottle of Megatek. But the truth is my hair did grow, just uneven, so I chose to continue and focus on a more even application.
  • Give Megatek a break then resume: Well after 3 months, I am really pleased!! My hair is noticeably thicker and stronger. I have about 2.5 inches of new growth, after my trim. I think I will give Megatek 2 thumbs up. I found out there is a human hair version called Ovation Cell Therapy that is a little more costly. I will now take a couple months off and focus on keeping my hair moisturized really well and resume after that.

My hair is shedding, is this normal?

According to the National Academy of Dermatology, human hair sheds 50-100 strands per day. So that hair on the bathroom floor is really normal! That's good news!

Megatek for Hair Growth

So if you are willing to spend a little more on hair care products and are committed to healthy hair care give Megatek a try. I do emphasize the importance of keeping your hair moisturized well because this product has a lot of protein in it which can have a drying effect. Happy hair growing!! Ciao!!!!!

I had wanted to know was people still using Mega Tek in 2016, and with the new ingredients does it still strengthen and grow your hair, and is it still good for human hair?

Hi Thanks so much for your response and yes I will buy some garlic tablets I use to use it once, but haven't in awhile.

      Pleasant good day to you

Wow, LadyFiddler! I would have been really upset if that happened to me at the hairdresser. Garlic does wonders for shedding, you should try it! I use the capsules but you may be able to find garlic shampoo as well. Another option may be rinsing your hair with black tea. That has helped me in the past. Steaming hair is a great, I think I will look into that. If your hair is shedding a lot already, I would probably hold off on this product until the shedding calms down.

Hi interesting Huba and Topic to me as my hair has been shedding like crazy for the past 1 1/2yr. My hair was growing long and short and my right side was about 4" longer than my left all in all it was just under my bra-line.

I went to the hairdresser last year September and she cut off a big amount without me knowing how much. I did not even see when she did it, My hair was curled up so when I got home and comb it out I was astonished.

The thing is if she cut off all that split ends then why is my hair still dropping even though I steam my hair with olive oil overnight?

I am so distressed about it because it's the fist time my hair have taken so long to grow back :( This product you are using sounds interesting.

@ Sarah....I used a ratio of about 1:3, Mega-Tek to oil. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Just remember to keep your hair moisturized well!

Glad to hear this product works so well! I'm definitely going to try it myself. Just curious, what ratio of Mega-Tek to oil did you end up using that stopped your scalp from breaking out?

Thanks for the review! I'm thinking of purchasing some and have heard some people use it daily on their scalp and hair and just dilute it with water or aloe vera juice then seal with oil.

I'm hoping to gain/retain length. My hair grows about an inch per month but I'm noticing my ends get thin and my hair is very fragile.
