My Favourite Colour of Sock

Updated on June 7, 2012

It is a fairly common question to ask people if they have a favourite of something, be it a colour or a number or a type of food, a book or a movie. Children will often say they have a favourite colour or number while some adults tend to move away from having favourites of such inconsequential things.

I do not believe it is common for someone to have a favourite sock colour. I get the sense that most people would pick socks to roughly, or exactly, match the rest of the apparel that the person is wearing. For example, one might wear dark socks with dark trousers; one might wear light coloured socks when doing sport activities. So what one may want to consider is that they may have a favourite based on what else they are wearing.

I, for example, have a favourite sock colour for when I am playing chess. I would share with you what colour that is, however, if I did so, I might lessen my chances of winning my chess matches.

I sometimes see that the uniform of sports teams have specific colours. No doubt those are the team colours, but whoever decided what the team colours were could possibly have had those colours as their favourite. Some sports teams even use their team colour in their socks.

If I was to play a sport on a team, I am sure that I would then own socks that were at some point someone's favourite colour.

You may have noticed in this hub that I write favourite and colour in a way that may be different from the way you write these words. This could very well be the reason for the existence of this hub, but I won't tell anyone if you won't.

You may have come to this hub expecting me to share with you exactly what is my most favourite colour of sock. I really hope I do not disappoint you when it comes time for me to share this vital piece of information with you. I can appreciate that the title of this hub would have drawn you in, have you sitting at the edge of your seat in anticipation, waiting to find out exactly what favourite colour of sock I have. No doubt you would compare my favourite colour with your own, or with people to whom you may have asked what their favourite colour of sock is. In fact, that is an excellent question...

How many people have you asked: "What is your favourite colour of sock?"

See results

When I was a child I do not recall if I had a favourite colour of sock. I'm fairly certain I had a favourite colour, or, in fact, a combination of colours that made up my favourite. I do not think I ever owned a pair of socks in that combination of colours that made up my favourite, so it is quite possible that when I was a child I did not have a favourite colour of sock. Or perhaps I did and the colour of sock that was my favourite was different from my favourite colour at the time.

As I grew older I became less enthralled with the idea of having a favourite colour and so what was once, as a child, my favourite, was no longer viewed with such favour.

Well, I hope now that you have read this hub that you have exactly what you were looking for; what my favourite colour of sock is. Thanks for reading!

Ttoombs, I wear socks pretty much every day of the year. The colour of the socks I wear varies.

Howdy, Phil! I do not have a favourite colour of sock as it is almost impossible to get me to wear socks or shoes. Yes, even in winter. :) Great insanely inane hub on socks and such. :)

I would not succeed in getting everyone in my family to wear the same colour of sock. Fortunately, my son (the only male of my children) has socks that are very easily distinguishable from anyone else's. Unfortunately, my two daughters will soon be of an age where they are close enough to have socks that are very similar. This will prove a challenge unless I follow your advice and just get them all the same socks. Thanks for stopping by!

I try to get everyone in my family to wear the same color, white, and the same brand. That way, I don't have to mix them up on laundry day!

Awesome Hub, and I voted it that way.

cogerson, I should hope that you and I are different people, otherwise, I suspect we'd have a whole lot more in common.

Jeannie, thanks for sharing. I do not have any socks with animals on them. I think the animals are happy about that.

Peanut, is that ace of Spades, or ace of Diamonds?

Millionaire, indeed, the less shared the better. Thanks for stopping by!

I think that you must have been deprived of your favorite color of sock as a child, so much so that you don't even know how to spell favorite and color correctly. You no longer announce your favorite color so that you no longer have to feel the pain and the hurt from not being able to get your favorite color of sock. I would say that maybe one day you will earn enough money to buy yourself your own pair of socks in your favorite color, but I just came from reading your hub about how not to make money on HubPages. I am sure you will be quite successful in that endeavor, so well, never mind. It is best you not share this information with the world.

Wow, you are thinking a lot about socks! I happen to have favorite socks, but not because of the colors. I like the patterns. I have socks with flying pigs on them. When people say, "When pigs fly!" I can say, "Look at my socks!" I do wish I had socks with cows coming home on them, but I have yet to find them. Oh well, a girl can dream! Voted up and shared!

Thanks Matt; I was less certain that someone else would have a favourite colour of sock when playing chess, but alas, there you are. Thanks for stopping by!

phd - impressive that you should have a favourite colour. I haven't one. As for the tattoo, my wife got one just in the last year or so, I have none and at the moment have no interest in having one.

Good point Phil. My favorite color of anything (socks included) is some shade of green. I happen to look good in gre and it is soothing and calming and speaks to nature and organic growth....and I have always liked it.

When I finally went and got my first and only tattoo (in my forties - after my kids left home) I had a green vine with leaves tattooed around my left ankle. Still like it. :)

aa - I do not understand the link between brightly coloured socks and the decreased chances of mismatching them. Thanks for stopping by!

phd, thanks for stopping by - I see no mention of sock colour in your comment. Perhaps you have no favourite?

Seems like you used the phrase "Inane Hub" somewhere, maybe on your Home page. Anyway, I love your version of inanity. Great stuff, quite funny. Definitely sharing.

I like either very brightly coloured socks, or ones with childish, garish designs. I feel there is less chance of losing them, or ending with a whole bunch of mismatched socks!

Smart - I think the odds are fairly good considering the limited number of colours there are in socks. Thanks for stopping by!

Brandon - I doubt you are the only one who likes black socks. That you owned up to it says something about the number seventeen.

Oh my gosh! Phil! Your favorite color of sock and my favorite color of sock are EXACTLY THE SAME. What are the odds??? All I can say is "wow." I think it is awesome that there is an entire category on HubPages devoted to men's socks.
