My Review of The Ordinary AHA BHA Peeling Solution

A college student on a budget who has a love for affordable, great skin care and beauty products.

The Mask's Formula

The appearance of the mask appears a little intimidating at first. It's a deep blood red color that makes it seem like it's not meant for skin, but it is. This mask is a very affordable $8-$20 mask that can be found at Ulta, Sephora and Amazon at a range of different prices.

This little bottle contains an at home chemical peel. It is a mix of many different skin-safe chemicals, particularly alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's), which exfoliate your skin to peel away acne scars and dark marks. The AHA's are mixed with beta hydroxy acids (BHA's) which clears clogged pores and blackheads. Since these ingredients alone would be very drying, the mixture also contains hyalurounic acid and vitamin B5 to help hydrate your skin. One thing about this mask to be careful about is that you cannot leave it on for more than 10 minutes; it's almost a little too strong for your skin any longer than that.

What the Mask Does

If you don't like exfoliating scrubs, especially ones with harmful micro-beads, this is a great alternative. Exfoliating your skin is a pretty important step in your skin care routine. Sometimes the beads in scrubs can cause micro-tears in your skin, which allows for bacteria to fester. This is what makes the AHA peel so great! You can still exfoliate while avoiding micro-tears.

Chemical exfoliators are a great tool to break down dead skin cells and excess oils. It's always very important to moisturize directly after exfoliating, or else your skin will be more dry than ever!

The Application

The instructions for use of this mask are pretty straight forward.

  • Wash your face and wait for the skin to dry, or pat dry. Do NOT use on wet skin or else the mask will not take effect.
  • Apply an even layer on face, avoiding the eye area. It may sting.
  • Leave on for no longer than 10 minutes. This is very important!
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
  • Moisturize after use.
  • Use no more than 2x per week.

It may not be the prettiest mask, but it does its job!

My Thoughts

Like many people, I have sensitive, combination skin. It can be dry and oily at the same time, and it's frustrating. After using this product for 3 weeks, twice a week, I found my skin to be softer and clearer than ever! I found that my pores got a little smaller, and I had less blackheads overall.

Using this face mask was a little painful at first, but the stinging sensation gets easier over time. In my opinion, unless you have very sensitive skin, this is a must have in your skincare arsenal! I found it to be a great product, worth every buck, and I plan on continuing to use it.

Verdict
