Onyx Gemstone

Onyx is a very popular semiprecious stone. It is a banded variety of Chalcedony Quartz usually black or brown with white bands, but can also be found in orange, red or honey colored. Onyx is widely used as an astrological gemstone. The name of this stone seems to have come from the Greek word onux which means fingernail or claw.

Onyx can be worn by those born under the Zodiac Sign of Leo and Capricorn. This stone is also associated with the 7th year of marriage. Black Onyx is the anniversary gemstone for the 10th year of marriage. Onyx is found in India and South America.

Healing and Metaphysical Properties of Onyx

Onyx stone is effective in all Chakras and is used to treat heart, kidney, and nerve and eye ailments. This stone is also especially good for those who are under stress and have trouble sleeping. This is also a very good stone for business people. This gem is also widely used for treating epilepsy, depression, bone marrow, blood disorders, Glaucoma, teeth, bones and hair.

This gemstone eliminates negative thinking in the wearer and also protects from negative influences and forces. Onyx is said to bring spiritual inspiration, courage, concentration, steadfastness, permanence and self control in the wearer. If you are the one who want to forget your past or relationship but having trouble in doing so Onyx is just the stone for you.

This gem needs to be handled with care because of its tendency to chip or scratch rather easily. It is better to store Onyx jewelry in a separate box when not in use. It can be cleaned using lukewarm water and a mild soap. The gem should be rinsed properly with water and then dried in open air.

Black Onyx stone is not the most popular choice for engagement ring. However, I don't think there is any problem in using Onyx Gemstone on an engagement ring if you like it.

@Fajar Crystals and Gemstones are not alternatives to medical attention. Onyx can be worn on the ring finger.

Thanks for the visit Steven. You can wear Black Onyx as a pendant if you like as it is known to help the wearer move on with life.

Hello Anika I find your articles very informative because I am getting into the power of stones and I am big believer in the effects and the good ora that it provides.

I need to ask you a question.

I have been through a lot in 2008, it has been a year I wish to forget. What kind of stone would you recommend for me to represent strength, will and courage. Also yes I would love to keep the negativity and evil away as well.

I would like to wear it as a neacklace if possible.

I look forward to your response.

If you like you can check out my hub as well.
